On the up side - friendly staff, comfortable bed with electric blanket, but that does not make up for the cold. Wood is privided once, then $20 a box thereafter and there is a small two bar electric heater. The open fire does not draft properly and we also ended up with a cottage filled with smoke and had to... More

Four family members stayed here for 2 nights recently. Tricky during winter, because they're FREEZING! However, there are bar heaters in the bedrooms (plus electric blankets) and an open fire, which we used enthusiastically. The first lot of firewood is free and $20 a lot thereafter. The cottages are clean, comfortable and conveniently located for the river, the shops/cafes and... More

Burra is a great historical town with heaps of things to see and do for a couple of days. However the cottages are sooo cold that we left early. The open fire creates a great atmosphere but all the heat goes straight up the chimney. Just as well there was an electric blanket on the bed!!! The cottages are very... More

Lovely cottage until we lit the fire. Both rooms full of acrid smoke, eyes stinging couldn't breathe and fire alarm in bedroom going off continually. Lounge detector where fire was, obviously not working. Had to open windows and doors in middle of night onto Main Street and it was freezing . This happened 2 nights and nausea and breathing problems... More

Our family stayed in theses cottages. They are very big cottages and clean. Quite cold and no TV but once we got the fire going it was magic. Kids loved the fire. They had everything we needed and are walking distance to the town and also have a park and creek just next door.

4 nights at the cottages was an experience. As a child I had lived in outback conditions and I thought the cottages were great. Clean and tidy and had basic items needed for a staying including a tub of wood for the open fire place. Very quiet with no TV and limited radio. Internet was slow so didn't use that... More

Stayed at the Paxton Cottages for 2 nights with friends. Although the cottages are basic, they are spacious and clean. They are across the road from a lovely park and only a few minutes walk to the local shops and hotels. They are priced very well and I would stay there again.

I absolutely love these cottages. They are extremely comfortable and provide all the utensils which is great if you want to do some indoor cooking. The cottages are located on the tourist drive route and very close to shops. The running water and ducks straight outside your door is extremely cute and gives a very rural feeling. Nothing like going... More

Stayed the night at Paxton Cottages and had a great time. Admittedly Paxton Cottages may not be for everyone - if you want all mod cons, TV, internet connection and 21st century trimmings - don't stay at Paxton. If you want as close to authentic (as you're going to get in 2013) 1800s accommodation and get a feel for how... More

We stayed in number 1. Numerous dead flies kitchen window sill/bedroom sill, nets very dirty. Crayon lines on bedroom walls. Smoke alarm no battery or cover, red stain on carpet.Carpet numerous burn marks in main room and walls covered in smoke dirt from fire.
