Fantastic food and a really great vibe. Can't recommend this place more. The food was delicious. Coming from Melbourne it's been the best stop off we've had after traveling in SA for two weeks. We will definitely come here again for a great feed and friendly service. The accommodation exceeded my expectations by a mile! And the food is what... More

Stayed at the historic Rising Sun Hotel on a friend's recommendation for two nights in July 2015, on a photography shoot in the Clare Valley. Auburn is a beautifully historic town in the Clare Valley, and quite well situated to wineries and other bistoric towns. We got a twin share where rooms were comfortable, beds a little small for my... More

Lovely restored hotel with focus on local wines all reasonably priced and a wide range. The service was great and like most eating establishments...there is a reason the chef has daily specials! Normally I would stay away from aussie pub menus that have indian/thai meals on their menus (unless they have a recognised cuisine chef!)..so i took the plunge and... More

So upon leaving SA for job opportunities I needed to have a leaving do. Previously I had heard many raves about this pub. Great pub meals and fantastic venue as well as many other positives. My only regret, not going there sooner to have a pub meal! I organised my event interstate. I never had an issue. I was able... More

The ideal base for exploring the superb wineries of the Clare Valley, walk or cycle the Riesling Trial or enjoy the annual Clare Valley Gourmet Weekend. Authentic Aussie pub, superb food, original accomodation in a beautiful building with open fire places and warm and friendly staff.

Auburn is 25k shy of Clare heading north. Old pub in the Main Nth rd. It has solid walls, verandah with seating and heaters and small speakers. A beer and local Watervale Riesling went down tea. Well with our food. Both hard the crumbed prawns and calamari, with salad, chips and tatare sauce. Both loved it. From what we saw... More

Stayed a couple of nights during gourmet weekend. The stable mews are small but have real charachter - anyway you should be out during the day! The food at the pub is awesome, we had selections of steak, pork, and duck all of which would not be out of place in a top city venue. The wine list is top... More

Enjoyed the food (we had two group dinners) accommodating of our needs - the puy lentils, and salmon were delicious, as was B+B pudding. Nice warm fire in the front bar and some nice deco mirrors around. Not the most modern restaurant but charming and very helpful staff - brought in and gave some medical supplies to my friend who... Hotel is run by Ken and his daughter Sarah. Management is very friendly and will do all they can to make your stay comfortable. The most important thing is the beer, the pale ale was beautiful and cold. Nice verandah to sit on outside whilst having a beer, restaurant also very good You won't get better accommodation in this area

My wife and I stayed at the Rising Sun for a night recently and we dined in the hotel restaurant. Based upon our experience, I would not recommend either the accomodation or the pub meals. Most disappointing was the meal - it was terrible. I ordered risoto, but was not risoto. Whoever cooked it was not qualified - it was... More
