The ideal base for exploring the superb wineries of the Clare Valley, walk or cycle the Riesling Trial or enjoy the annual Clare Valley Gourmet Weekend. Authentic Aussie pub, superb food, original accomodation in a beautiful building with open fire places and warm and friendly staff.

Auburn is 25k shy of Clare heading north. Old pub in the Main Nth rd. It has solid walls, verandah with seating and heaters and small speakers. A beer and local Watervale Riesling went down tea. Well with our food. Both hard the crumbed prawns and calamari, with salad, chips and tatare sauce. Both loved it. From what we saw... More

Stayed a couple of nights during gourmet weekend. The stable mews are small but have real charachter - anyway you should be out during the day! The food at the pub is awesome, we had selections of steak, pork, and duck all of which would not be out of place in a top city venue. The wine list is top... More

Enjoyed the food (we had two group dinners) accommodating of our needs - the puy lentils, and salmon were delicious, as was B+B pudding. Nice warm fire in the front bar and some nice deco mirrors around. Not the most modern restaurant but charming and very helpful staff - brought in and gave some medical supplies to my friend who... Hotel is run by Ken and his daughter Sarah. Management is very friendly and will do all they can to make your stay comfortable. The most important thing is the beer, the pale ale was beautiful and cold. Nice verandah to sit on outside whilst having a beer, restaurant also very good You won't get better accommodation in this area

My wife and I stayed at the Rising Sun for a night recently and we dined in the hotel restaurant. Based upon our experience, I would not recommend either the accomodation or the pub meals. Most disappointing was the meal - it was terrible. I ordered risoto, but was not risoto. Whoever cooked it was not qualified - it was... More

we stopped at the Rising Sun hotel on the way back to Care from Adelaide for dinner. It was a hot night and the hotel was full but they p[laced us in a breeze way [passage]. My partner ordered a type of seafood stew made up of Barramundi, prawns, scallops mussels - 'bloody beautiful" on a par with the one... More

Enjoyed a quick coffee on the terrace whilst passing through the Clare Valley Riesling trail. Nice friendly staff and the place had real character. Would recommend. Established 1851 and one of the oldest hotels in SA.

We were looking for a place to stay that had some character and charm to base our visit to the Clare valley. This place achieved what we wanted. You have a choice to stay in the hotel itself or in rooms alongside ( the converted stables/mews). We stayed in the front converted room. It was lovely. It had really character... More

We've eaten here before and it was great. This time my curry was served with a pile of tiny, cold Asian mushooms. Service was slow and prices a bit steep. The dining room is turn of the last century and nicely laid out with white table clothes. Overall atmosphere is good. Please take note of these comments as we hope... More
