I haven't done a lot of camping, but I did stay in a campsite here. There were Nice flat tent pads in every site that we checked. The bathrooms were nicer than expected, kept clean and in working order. It rained heavily the second day, and our tent flooded. So we only spent one night instead of two. We also... More

Campground is nice. Need to have a picture of the campground before you book. Some sites are just big enough for a tent. Bathhouse is not air conditioning. Pool is good. We had to drive to it. Workers are nice.

We stopped by the visitors center and got some really helpful advice. The best hike for first time visitors is to park at the lower falls parking lot and hike to the Stone Mountain Falls. The path is relatively flat and goes past the old homestead. The homestead is worth a few minutes to explore for first timers. It took... More

My family (2 adults, 4kids) enjoyed a full dayof hiking at Stone Mtn. We hiked up to the top, then made our way to the lower falls. We enjoy the outdoors, so the time spent together and exploring was excellent. We even came across a black snake and had to stop to examine it. We also saw a fewdeer along... More

This state park is a must see in the fall. We were there the last week in October. The leaves were absolutely stunning. The campground is immaculate and the sites are large. It is very peaceful and quiet. My husband fly-fished in the streams. A must see is the Hutchinson Homestead. The camp has electricity and water. There is no... More

Stone Mountain State Park is adjacent to the Blue Ridge Parkway, although it will take you about a half hour to get from the Parkway to the Park entrance. The campground is relatively new (about 5 years old) and was built on what was an open field. As a result, the landscaping is still filling in, but the electric and... More

This park surpassed our expectations. We stayed for a week in our small travel trailer. The crisp Fall weather was perfect, albeit a bit rainy for a few days. The park offers the following: very large rv sites, beautiful scenery, trout streams, lots of both easy and strenuous hiking trails, a beautiful, granite mountain. The restrooms were spotless. The staff... More

We're glad we read these reviews! We were nursing sore knees so couldn't do much hiking, but wanted an easy trail. We chose Widow's Creek from maps in the Visitor Center. That wasn't enough of a hike (we parked near it), so we hiked the Wolf Rocks Trail from the Stone Mountain Loop trailhead. We then saw a Ranger in... More

Ours was just a day trip. Strenuous 4.5 mile loop offers very good summit experience and a decent waterfall. Also includes 640 stairs though many small children and some older folks were able to complete. Park is difficult to get to so pack supplies and take your time once there. Many places along trails for breaks and picnics including an... More

My wife and I decided to check out Stone Mountain State Park on our way home from a trip to western NC. The park is a little way from the major highways but we enjoyed driving on the local roads. The park is pretty big and if you are just stopping by for a few hours like we were I... More
