My wife and I decided to check out Stone Mountain State Park on our way home from a trip to western NC. The park is a little way from the major highways but we enjoyed driving on the local roads. The park is pretty big and if you are just stopping by for a few hours like we were I... More

clean, mostly level, PAVED sites for RVs. Quiet, without cell or wifi (this is a PLUS for us). Clean and nice bathrooms. lots of wildlife. Be aware there is NO cable, wifi, or sewer hookups, but there is a dump station. Some of the larges camping sites I have seen.

My husband and I stayed a weekend. Got to the park at 7:30. Just in time bc they close at 8pm. Firewood is $5 bundle. $4 at the gas station outside the park and $6 at the country store. Park wood burned best. Wish the camp sites were a little more wooded but it is a beautiful valley. Bathrooms very... More

This is a nice campground with decent showers for NC campgrounds. Each night I saw plenty of wildlife and there is a nice little waterfall nearby. If you enjoy history, it has an old family farm on it with signs to learn about the families that once occupied the area. Good hiking and exploring too! Be wary of the summer... More

This is 2nd time camping but 5th time in park. Every time has been a great experience. Camp ground is well maintained and clean with great views. The park itself is amazing, with the abundant wildlife, numerous waterfalls, hiking and trout fishing, it truly has something for all. My 2 sons always have a great time and it is pet... More

The tent campsites are convenient and comfortable but not very private. There are overly friendly deer everywhere. The stone mountain trail is a good, fairly strenuous hike -- 4.5 mile loop. The views are well worth it. Wolf rock at sunset is my happy place! Watch out for black bears.

I'd never been camping before, and my fiance and his family use to be heavy into camping some years ago. And, me being who I am, I'd been more than eager to go camping ever since he and I began dating a little over 3 years ago. We finally got the chance earlier this year, and for it to be... More

This was my first experience camping at a NC State Park, and it exceeded all my expectations! I had been warned to get there early on Friday, because the sites are first-come-first-served, and that couldn't be more true. We arrived around 2:30 and literally took the very last of the shaded, "woodsy", sites. There are lots of newer sites that... More
