The main issue with this inn/motel is the price. A king bed room is $132 per night. This room (#110) is extremely small with barely enough room to get dressed in the mornings. The bathroom is also very small. In order to stand in front of the sink you must enter the bathroom, step almost completely in the shower in... More

We headed to Southport to spend the night and first stopped by the Driftwood Motel out on Oak Island. We didn't even get out of the car- just backed out and came to the Island Resort down the street. It was like night and day! There were a lot of cars in the parking lot but the sign said 'Vacancy"... More

Stepping into this room is like traveling back in time, because everything is very old and outdated, sort of like walking into a poorly funded nursing home. The room itself is tiny; the first thing you notice is the smell. They use a lot of bleach to cover up the old moldy smell. It's almost like going camping, except you're... More

My husband and I made reservations for one nite based on good reviews. Knowing it would be out dated ok with that. We checked in and opened our door and was immediately hit with a strong cigarette smell. I am pregnant and would not have made this reservation had we been told it is a smoking facility. The bedspread was... More

This motel has a wonderful location, just two blocks from the pier and walking distance to many restaurants and a sports bar. It has direct access to the beach and views of the ocean. The staff is very friendly and helpful. Unfortunately the motel is in desperate need of renovations. The carpeting and furniture are unacceptable -- extremely old, worn... More

Motel staff was very friendly. Great location. Motel is old, but well taken care of. Room was small, but extremely clean. Great mattress. Was overcharged on my bill. Contacted the manager, and was quickly taken care of. Be sure to eat at the Flying Fish restaurant, across the street at the Oak Island Pier. Excellent food. Pool was closed due... More

If you smoke and have dogs you may have no choice on Oak Island. The hotel is run down; outdated; and falling apart. There are no curtains only mini blinds, So bright at night in the room you can read a book without turning on the lights in your room. The window AC will make your ears ring after awhile.... More

I give it a 4 out of 5 primarily because it is NOT a Hylton. But the staff are extremely nice and the place was very clean (though the furnishings were not new or updated). We stayed over a weekend and loved the close proximity to the beach, pier and fresh seafood. The one thing they DON'T tell you is... More

I stayed here with the family and definitely can understand the mixed reviews now. This place is a typical old school beach motel (but at relatively high prices for what you get). The maintenance has been neglected so you will see plenty of dingy/cracked/worn out/run down items in your room. We actually kept our shoes on the entire time in... More
