We were looking for something off the beaten path and rustic---weren't interested in fancy nor resorty and this exactly fit my mental picture. We were convenient to Maggie Valley and Waynesville but were tucked a mile or two off a secondary road in the mountains. We stayed in Shindig, a 106 year old log cabin with a stone woodburning fireplace.... more

As we pulled up the mountain I caught a glimpse of the lodge behind the trees to my left, it was just like a movie. I realized immediately all I read and heard about the Smokey Shadows Lodge would be true. We were greeted by Ginger and Meg, both so friendly you felt right at home. They had a large... more

We arrived again at the lodge with unraveled expectations. Our worst nightmare would be to have other guest that make our stay not so great. All our class mates met in the parking area by the lodge and we were as filled with anticipation this time as ever before. This was our 38th year reunion of some of our class... more

It certainly has one of the best views anyway. And I've never been anywhere more atmospheric. The main lodge is just beautiful: think huge old beams, wooden walls, a huge porch, a dinging room whose floors slope with age, great big log fires, old fashioned stoves, an amazing collection of Americana and antique jumble... The owners Bud and Ginger are... more

We were very excited about the snowfall they had already had and more planned for the weekend we were there. I should have been more alert when I was asked if we had a 4-wheel drive vehicle. Smokey Shadows Lodge... more

After a beautiful drive though the mountains we arrived at Smokey Shadows Lodge. From the moment we parked the car I knew this was just what we were looking for. The lodge was crafted from reclaimed timber from a old grist mill. Nothing close to the cookie cutter hotel chain we generally stay in. When we stepped in lodge from... more

This is a cozy rustic lodge tucked up in the mountains, 5- 10 minutes from the main street -- you'd never just stumble across it, but it is worth looking for, particularly when you just can't take the Maggie Valley kitsch anymore. The rooms are small but charming. And the view of the Smokey Mountains is Awesome! We spent hours... more
