Smokey Shadows is unique. The lodge and cabins do not simply provide a place to sleep and eat, but creates experiences and memories for my family. The owners (Ginger and Bud) are always truly welcoming and accommodating. We now refer to our trips to North Carolina as our trips to Smokey Shadows. It is an amazing retreat to experience with... My husband surprised me with a getaway to Maggie Valley. The lodge is quaint & rustic with beautiful views of the mountains. The family style dinner was tasty & fun. Miss Ginger makes the experience even more special. You feel like you are staying with family! I can't wait to go back.

If it is food so good it will make you want to "slap 'yo mama", then this is the place. Entrees play second fiddle to the "just right" veggies. Tomatoe pie is my particular favorite, salad is very fresh and crisp. Dessert, usually my main reason for eating the meal, takes a back seat to the veggies. Ginger is wonderful... More

This is our families 3rd trip to Smokey Shadows and we couldn't imagine staying anywhere else. The rustic atmosphere makes it feel like a true getaway and the company and food makes it feel like a home away from home.

We arrived on Thanksgiving morning, 2013 and stayed for a couple of days. We should have planned a longer stay, but it was our first time and we could not have imagined the wonderful experience. Dinner was superb: Turkey with stuffing, Ham, Sweet Potato casserole, green beans, mashed potatoes, ambrosia, several desserts and more I cannot remember. Other guests included... More

When calling to inquire about their family dining options, I spoke with Mrs Ginger(Truly the Lady of the manor) and knew we had to experience her place. Within a few moments of conversation, I felt as though we were old friends! Her guiding hand is present everywhere and how nice to witness her family working so hard to please the... More

Smokey Shadows is a relaxing place for a quick getaway or a long family reunion. Personable hospitality is what you get from the Shinn Family. It was centrally located and easy to get to. We rented the entire lodge for our family reunion. The lodge has 12 rooms with a bathroom in each room and 2 cabins. The views were... More

We have experienced the lodge, food and wonderful staff at Smokey Shadows on many different occasions...our wedding, birthday celebrations and for private concerts! It is nothing short of magical!!! When I host an event there, specifically a concert, the waiting list continues to grow... Everyone loves the quaint atmosphere, the history and of course the lodge owners - Ginger, Bud,... More

I am the Youth Director for a country club in Atlanta. We have stayed at Smokey Shadows for 8-9 years now. It is located on the way up the mountain to Cataloochee Ski Resort. This makes your drive to the slopes very short. The kids love the big family room and kitchen. I love the two hallways in the main... More
