Not a luxury hotel, very dated, but cannot beat the price for the location. When you're at the beach, are you really in the room anyway? Pool is always clean, ocean front rooms are large. Plenty of quick places to walk to - restaurants across the street, convenience store 1 block away. We stay here often, and the staff is... More

If you are looking for luxury, don't stay here. The motel is very dated, but for the price, convenience to local attractions, shopping and restaurants, as well as the beachfront location, you can't beat it. The room we stayed in was very comfortable, had a full size fridge and microwave and plenty of room for 2 adults and one child.... More

My wife and I were referred here by friends who had stayed here frequently. The motel is dated, but for a view and convenience to all of the OBX, you cannot beat it. We had an oceanfront room--spectacular beachfront views. Service was helpful, and it was fully equipped with all utensils, glasses, dishes, fridge, microwave, full oven/stove, and a coffeemaker... First thing you need to understand is that this is a motor lodge that was likely built some time in the 1950s or 1960s -- so it is going to be dated. I stayed here a few years ago and just this week with a group of friends who shared two adjoining rooms. The owners are making renovations. The refrigerators... More

This is a hotel we stayed at for a lot of years. This was the first time ocean front. Haven't been there for quite some time. We were shocked at the condition. The room was clean, however, bare wood around the ocean front window, Bathroom fixtures were probably the originals, It took a minimum of a half hour to get... More

Let me address your complaints one at a time: Window frames - We have put new windows in our oceanfront rooms and are in the process of finishing the installation. Winter is the most opportune time to accomplish improvements. Bedspread pattern - We have heard this complaint before, even right after these bedspreads were bought. The pattern, called "Hilton Head",... More

We've been coming to the Cavalier for 3 years now. Yes, the rooms are dated, but they are clean and comfortable. Yes, the office is open on the weekend and there is a caretaker on the premises 24/7 if you have a problem. Yes, we travel with our dogs and no, we've never had a flea issue during or after... More

We booked this motel for their 3 bedroom cottage. We were traveling with 3 people and our large dog. When we arrived we expected the cottage to look like a cottage. Instead it was the end larger unit of the horseshoe design of the motel along the road. We entered our cottage and were happy to see all the room... More

We are sorry that our cottage did not have "the look" you were expecting. There are plenty of pictures on our website, showing outside and inside our accommodations. Our cottages are pet-friendly so there are times when people's pets may leave behind fleas. We have a maintenance pest-control contract with a local company and do our very best to prevent... More

This is an old school motel, single level horseshoe wrapped around the pool. We were visiting for a wedding and everything in the area was booked by the time we decided to attend. The 2 nights that we were there neither of us got a minute of sleep. The people in the rooms on either side of us sounded like... More

We are so sorry for the problems that you experienced while staying at our motel. Most people enjoy the "single level horseshoe wrapped around the pool" layout since it gives such easy access to the pools and playground area and provides parking right in front of your room except for oceanfront rooms. Though it is true that we do not... More

Place is clean for an un-updated 1960's era brick motel. Windows don't have screens so no fresh air, furnishings are way below par - welfare office probably outfitted better. Kitchen had a sink but that's about it. Bring everything you'll want. Cigarette butts littered the walkways and common area. Place is a dump.

So sorry this was your experience. We are an older motel, built in 1950, and have enjoyed generations of guests who return year after year. A review written around the same time as yours comments favorably on our kitchen amenities, saying: "Service was helpful, and it was fully equipped with all utensils, glasses, dishes, fridge, microwave, full oven/stove." We are... More

For a first timer to OBX, I can't complain. We were able to check into our room early, and the front desk was very friendly. When booking the room, I solely based my selection off of the previous reviews. You have to understand how long this place has been in existance, and arrive with an open mind. I have to... More
