We decided at the last minute to go to Highlands to see the leaves and were happy to get a room anywhere so had no expectations, we weren't expecting the Ritz. The Skyline Lodge was clean, had everything we needed, the employees were lovely and we loved the little balcony off of our room. We got a kick out of... More

This hotel is located on a mountain side just outside of Highland, NC, a serenely beautiful setting in the trees overlooking a creek. The hotel is a little piece of history, started in 1929, then construction was abandoned during the Depression and for the next 35 years it was vacant. In 1965 the hotel was finished. It is only open... More

A quick one night stay when our first choice was booked led us to Skyline. Easy to find, very nice employees. The online rate we were quoted could have been beat if we had called direct. They appear to be making improvements to these older buildings, which will be good to see in the future but our room was clean,... More

Lovely location with friendly staff. Bad news was the tired accommodations. Paint was peeling off the walls in spots in our room, bathroom had light mold on the ceiling and in the tile grout and the television was a 17 inch tube type that was difficult to watch as it was so bleary. Room had a damp musty smell probably... More

My husband and I stayed here with our labradodle. They have a few pet friendly rooms. The location is very close to town, but you are away from the crowds of town. The lodge has an amazing history being built in the Frank Lloyd Wright style. There is a lot of beautiful stonework. It has a beautiful view, which you do... More

My wife and I had stayed at the Skyline Lodge about 10 years ago and really enjoyed it. We returned there over Labor Day Weekend and found it to be even better with age. The Lodge is spectacular and the food at the restaurant is the best we have experienced anywhere in the Highlands area and we have tried them... More

This remote resort was quaint and charming. Supposedly the weekends are crowded but on a Monday the place was practically ours. The room was comfortable, 51 degrees outside on an August evening, which met our needs with one exception-(the room had a fragrance bag) which was difficult for us because it attacks our allergies. It was far too cold to... More

It's currently named Altitude. We were treated like cherished family. We had heard raves about the maple pecan trout. Not on the menu! It turns out it was a Saturday special but our waiter, Eric, said he'd ask the chef. Tonight's $20 special was chicken carbonara. The rest of the dinners were $29-39 range..no salads. Good news..the wonderful chef said... More

The Skyline Lodge is a wonderful Highlands mountain retreat. Rooms are comfortable with nice amenities. The staff is pleasant and we experienced no issues during our stay. We recommend it highly. It's wonderful to be near the town, but isolated away from the hustle-bustle, not that Highlands has much.
