I was looking for a campground to replace Balsam Mt campground and thought I'd check Mile High out. I wasn't impressed and the owner was cold cold cold so I left. He didn't even acknowledge that I was standing there for several minutes. My truck was full of camping equipment which I'm sure he saw but he certainly wasn't interested... More

This is our third time staying and always enjoy it. Friendly staff and Sammy is a hoot, always make you feel welcome. The only place we ever consider staying when camping in the Smokies And cant beat a hot shower at a primitive campground!

Simple campground - which is what camping is all about, in my opinion. It is primitive, with no electric or water hookup. I like that too, in that it attracts folks who really enjoy nature, rather than big rig travelers. The location of the campground is a bit off the beaten path, but not too hard to find if you... Staying here was a highlight of traveling through this area. I truly felt the presence of God at two points while enjoying the view from our campsite. We did get to see a couple of elk on our last morning there. While the bathrooms could use better cleaning, I would definitely stay here again!

For 5 years, my son and I have camped at Mile High. I have seen complaints of the facilities, remember, this is a CAMPGROUND. Mile high has hot showers and a place to use the loo. The views are great, close to NOC and fishing. This is a great place to camp.

Just got back from there. Stayed August 10-14. Stayed at site 21. 84 degrees in Cherokee, 53 at the top. Elk in the campgrounds every morning and evening. Saw lots of turkeys on the way up and down the mountain. Easier to find than I thought it would be. Dogs and kids very much o.k. No bears. Showers and bathrooms... More

Since moving within driving distance of the Blue Ridge area, my husband and I have camped at many different state parks and smaller campgrounds to take advantage of the natural surroundings. Mile High Campground is the first (and only) campground we have stayed at that had panoramic mountain views directly from the campsites. They were absolutely incredible! Sometimes we were... More

You really saw bears at mile high campground. For the last 7 years I've spent 6 - 8 weeks of my summer break at mile high and have yet to see a bear in the campground. Great. Views, yes! Primitive camping, yes! Hot showers & flush toilets, yes! Great hosts, yes! Bears , NO ! Keep your NPS and government... More
