We have stayed at Paul and Cindy's 1902 Turnpike House for the past 5 years. We always get a warm welcome and thoroughly enjoy their charming home. Paul, of course, is a wonderful and creative chef!! Fresh herbs and flowers come from their garden. Don't miss sitting on the back porch to watch birds and woodland creatures. Yesterday we saw... More

Although we arrived later in the evening, due to getting lost at the end of our 11 hour drive, Paul welcomed us as soon as we arrived and gave us a tour of the home and our room, which is an addition to the main house. As others have mentioned, the B&B is decorated quite extensively for the season, and... More

We stayed on a Thursday so there was no one else staying (weekdays are usually very quiet, that's why we go then) at the Turnpike. Upon arrival they met us at the door and gave us a tour and history of the house, pointed out the cookies, one kind of which were made especially for my dietary needs! They were... More

two couples and our 3 teenagers stayed here two nights between Christmas and NYE. It was our kids first stay in a B&B and they loved it and so did we (we have stayed at several before). We had all three rooms upstairs so we had to all to ourselves. Really felt like our house! Breakfast was delicious and a... More

My boyfriend and I came to Banner Elk, NC with another couple to ski on Beech and Sugar Mountain and to celebrate NYE and his 30th birthday. I'm not going to lie -I was quite skeptical about staying at a B&B, but I'm thrilled that I took the chance. My boyfriend and I stayed in the Elizabeth Room (1st floor).... More

After an 8 hour car ride from Memphis we arrived at 1902. We were greeted at the door by Cindy, who was holding out a plate of warm, homemade chocolate chip cookies. It was snowing out and this was most welcome. There was a fire burning in the stove in the living room. The entire house was decked out for... More

We decided about one week prior to our visit to come to the Mountains for a weekend visit. We found this B & B on Trip Advisor and after reading all the reviews, and comparing both the other facilities, and this location we choose this home. We are not disappointed. Right from arriving, they met us in the parking lot... More

My husband and I unexpectedly showed up at the 1902 Turnpike without a reservation and we couldn't have been treated more warmly. We were given a tour of the house and a fascinating history of the property. Our room was large and very comfortable with every amenity available (not to mention the fluffiest bath towels I've ever come across!) Breakfast... More

My Husband and I desperately needed a getaway and the 1902 Turnpike House B & B was the best place we could have gone! Cindy and Paul, Bella (the dog) and Turtle (the cat) all make you feel as welcome as if they were expecting family. Paul's culinary skills are amazing, as you will see, as you partake of the... Innkeepers Paul and Cindy are as gracious people as you will likely ever meet, and they truly make you feel like you are guests in their home. The house is cheerfully appointed, as was our room. The house is a mix of old and new. We stayed in the Beech Room, which is the largest and is located in an... More
