Stayed at the Balsam last weekend. It is a beautiful inn, and the people who work there are kind. The location was a little hard to find but not too bad. Nearby in Waynesville there are a lot of restaurants, breweries and shops to visit. I liked Waynesville. The scenery was fabulous, the mountains beautiful. It was a little too... More

Every year we take a two week motorcycle trip in Search of America. On these annual trips we stay off the inter-states and only take the back roads. Our way of trying to recapture what life was like in a simpler time. It was a long motorcycle trip from Connecticut down to Balsam, North Carolina but the trip was well... More

My wife and I found the place on living social. We showed up on a Thursday night and it was raining. We pulled up and it looked like something out the The Shining, haha. It's a cool location. It's right by the blue ridge parkway, so you can drive and see the scenic routes and go on trails. The rooms... More

We arrived in the afternoon after an overnight snowfall. Once we left the interstate, the roads in Balsam were just being plowed. We tried to get up to the inn on the inn curvy driveway, but our Prius hybrid was spinning halfway up. We called and the desk staff could see us and told us to back down and he... More

We have just returned from spending the weekend at this wonderful inn! Due to a recent ice storm we were pretty much confined - what a lucky break for us! No TVs and no phones - but warm fireplaces throughout, especially in the library, and plenty of books and games made for such a wonderful relaxing get away! There is... More

If you are seeking a chain Hotel with all the modern amenities & big screen TVs - this is not the place for you. However, if you are seeking an Inn reminiscent of the early 20th century - you can't really get more authentic. It is a marvelous escape from the modern with a romantic, cozy & quaint step into... Thank you "jazzevangelist”, we're glad you stayed with us! You're right, our Bedsitting Rooms are better for guests who plan to spend more time in their rooms, or who travel "heavy". More

We came to the Balsam Mountain Inn Restaurant to celebrate our anniversary. Our server, Brian, was great. My husband had the beef tenderloin and I had the catfish. Outstanding! Nice wine list and good beer selection with local craft beers available. Vegetables were fresh and crisp. We splurged and shared a slice of pecan pie with a side of salted... More

The inn is truly historic, charming and in rustic condition. The innkeeper and staff are extraordinarily friendly and helpful. Food was excellent for dinner and one breakfast, and average the other breakfast. Nearby shopping in Sylva and Dillsboro were very good for pottery, crafts. Lulu's was good for lunch. A few words to manage expectations -- This 100-year old wooden... More

My sister and I spent 3 days at the Balsam Inn to celebrate my birthday. I wanted to visit the Smoky Mtns. and the Inn is right at an entrance to the Blue Ridge Parkway with spectacular views. I loved reading the history of the place in the cozy library with the fire blazing and seeing photos of travelers in... More

I stayed at Balsam Mountain Inn for two days while researching my next book. Rates are reasonable. Accomodations are rustic but comfortable. Breakfast is ample and hearty. The staff are friendly and helpful. The bright and spacious common areas provide numerous nooks in which to sit with a laptop and work while the life of the inn flows by. Probably... More
