A lovely space to stay near the southern end of the Blue Ridge Parkway - beautiful historic building, comfortable antique beds, great breakfast and reliable wifi thrown in. Worth spending a little more for!

I have wanted to stay here for years and finally was able to spend 4 nights. I loved the quaintness and antiquity of the inn. The main lobby was very comfortable and homey. There were lots of nooks and crannies through out the 46,000 square feet to explore. The porches were wonderful places to hang out. The first floor halls... More

We'd read the reviews and the hotel website, so knew there would be no TV or phone, with occasional wifi. The hotel is in a lovely, fairly isolated location, with rocking chairs on the verandahs. The room we had wasn't huge, but had all we needed. The hotel is a clap-board construction, built around 1900 and is very atmospheric.

We really enjoyed our stay. It was so awesome to sleep with the windows open in July and need a blanket! The rooms are quaint, nothing fancy but very comfortable. Loved hanging out in the rocking chairs on the upstairs porch - great view. We ended up eating dinner at the restaurant both nights and the food was fabulous. So... More

I am stretching the "very good" rating because it was above average, but not very good!:( We ate dinner there on our first night which was on a Saturday. We drank unsweet tea, and didn't even get a dessert, and the meal, including the tip, was almost $80! That may not seem much for some folks, but there were only... More

Loved staying here! Yes, it was a tad bit musty but it's over 100 years old! No A/C ( didn't need it), no TV, they do have wi-fi... Room was very comfortable & the food in the restaurant was delicious. We had the mountain trout....fabulous! The complimentary breakfast was wonderful too. We so enjoyed rocking on the porch & enjoying... More

Disappointing! Could be a nice place to stay if it were better maintained. Smelled very musty. Lots of leaks in ceilings all over the whole building. There should be a backup generator in case of power outage, which we got to experience while staying there! no power also meant after a period of time, no water! We woke up to... More

There aren't many places like this left. A hundred years ago these old hotels, always built near railroad lines, allowed the city and low country dwellers to escape the heat and spend a few days, weeks or the entire summer in the cool mountain air. The Balsam railroad stop was the highest elevation depot east of the Rockies. The depot... More

If you want a fabulous, relaxing & quaint experience, then the Balsam Mountain Inn is the answer. My husband had gotten a deal on Living Social and it was about to expire, so we called very last minute and they found us the perfect room. As soon as we arrived, we were offered keys to check out all of the... More
