Was at the Thayer for a football weekend w/ family. We stayed here 2 years ago and liked it - this time the place has definitely been spruced-up. We had 2 rooms -1 faced the river and the other faced the campus ,both were roomy ,well decorated, had ample furniture, bedding was good ,very clean and everything was updated. Service was fine... more

Since there is a dearth of hotels in the area, the Thayer does fill a need, but it certainly could use an updating. The dining room is painted a bland vanilla color, when the columns and beams should be left a natural wood color. Food wasn't bad, although the duck was too dry and stringy. Breakfast buffet is outstanding, with... more

This is one hotel where it really helped us to read the negative as well as the positive reviews. As told by other reviewers, the guards tell you to go directly to the parking lot instead of informing you that you can drop your bags off at the hotel before parking. This is also a hotel where you MUST ask... more

Keeping it short: 1. Upon arrival in the late evening, our rooms (4 of them) were either dirty with sheets unchanged or with no towels and wash cloths. Wash cloths, we were told, needed to be specially requested and approved through reception (several phone calls and minutes later, we were approved wash cloths). 2. An elderly gentleman fell down the... more

After reading some of the reviews of The Thayer Hotel, I was very reluctant to keep our reservation. It is not an inexpensive property and therefore I was not looking forward to being unhappy. Had my husband and I not stayed, we would have missed a wonderful visit. I will begin with the staff: Beginning with the young man who... more

I have traveled extensively and found this overpriced heap the worse place ever. The cost was way beyond the expectations for our trip. Sharing a dirty bathroom and beds/pillow was like something out of a Steven King Movie. Plaster was peeling off the ceiling and the water was clay colored. Wasnt sure if it was safe to bathe or even... more

I recently attended my cousin's wedding reception at West Point with the majority of the guests staying at the Hotel Thayer. Rooms were prepaid and booked months in advance yet when we arrived many of us including the Bride's mother found our rooms given away to others. By sheer dumb luck the hotel had other rooms available but we were... more

My husband and I stayed at the Hotel Thayer (listed in the "Historic Hotels of America") for a recent reunion of alumni of USMA. The setting is beautiful, the public rooms well appointed, as are many of the rooms. The disappointment was for the room we were assigned, on the 8th floor. This meant using the elevator to the mezzanine,... more

I've been going to The Thayer since my son had his wedding there three years ago. I must say we were overwhelmed, as our guests were by their service, quality and attention. Everyone felt exactly the same and have since taken a trip or two back to enjoy private time. I continue to go back three or four times a... more

We spent a great getaway weekend at The Thayer Hotel. My eight friends of 40 years chose The Thayer Hotel to spend our "second annual getaway weekend." We all thought the lobby was beautiful, grand and filled with history and tradition. We started our weekend at the bar which was a charming room overlooking the Hudson. The views of the... more
