I have traveled extensively and found this overpriced heap the worse place ever. The cost was way beyond the expectations for our trip. Sharing a dirty bathroom and beds/pillow was like something out of a Steven King Movie. Plaster was peeling off the ceiling and the water was clay colored. Wasnt sure if it was safe to bathe or even... more

I recently attended my cousin's wedding reception at West Point with the majority of the guests staying at the Hotel Thayer. Rooms were prepaid and booked months in advance yet when we arrived many of us including the Bride's mother found our rooms given away to others. By sheer dumb luck the hotel had other rooms available but we were... more

My husband and I stayed at the Hotel Thayer (listed in the "Historic Hotels of America") for a recent reunion of alumni of USMA. The setting is beautiful, the public rooms well appointed, as are many of the rooms. The disappointment was for the room we were assigned, on the 8th floor. This meant using the elevator to the mezzanine,... more

I've been going to The Thayer since my son had his wedding there three years ago. I must say we were overwhelmed, as our guests were by their service, quality and attention. Everyone felt exactly the same and have since taken a trip or two back to enjoy private time. I continue to go back three or four times a... more

We spent a great getaway weekend at The Thayer Hotel. My eight friends of 40 years chose The Thayer Hotel to spend our "second annual getaway weekend." We all thought the lobby was beautiful, grand and filled with history and tradition. We started our weekend at the bar which was a charming room overlooking the Hudson. The views of the... more

The staff and managers at this hotel are not only rude, but unprofessional. I was supposed to attend a close friends' wedding with my stay being at the Thayer. We had an ice storm the day we were supposed to leave (driving from 13 hours away) and tried to cancel our reservation since we thought it was too hazardous to... more

Beware - the hotel pulled a bait and switch. They advertised a package for a certain price - never provided a confirmation, never provided a receipt at checkout because the system was down. They charged an incorrect amount but refuse to correct the error even though they have admitted their mistake. They have very poor front desk service and the... more

You can feel the tradition and the pride when you stay at the Thayer Hotel. This place holds so much history and it's a thrill to be on the West Point campus. Parachuters were dropping nearby, barges and pleasure boats pass by on the Hudson (out our window) and grand castles are across the river. The hotel is on the... more

We stayed here for two nights while attending a game vs. New Hampshire. We liked it. It's old yes, but we thought it was in pretty good condition. It isn't luxury by any means but comfortable enough. The good: Beautiful lobby, clean, spacious room, windows that open, great views of the Hudson from our room, the bar and the dining... more

It is astonishing that they are able to get away with charging almost $300 per night for their rooms. They have a monopoly and they take full advantage of it. The hotel used to be owned by the government but was sold to private investors in 06 or 07. Supposedly, changes are being made. As far as I can tell,... more
