BRILLIANT! Is the only word to describe this delightful get-away place in an "off-the-beaten-track" destination at Opito Bay. It's 10km of gravel road from Kuaotunu (halfway between Whitianga and Coromandel Town) but worth every kilometre for the fantastic unspoilt beach at the other end. The Lodge is situated up a hillside which gives a splendid view of the Bay from... More

We now make jokes about it, but this place was terrible. after a long journey, My sister got put on an uncomfortable camp bed in the living room, we were in a tiny back room, looking out onto ugly prefab houses next door. The owners had advised us to buy dinner there, so we each paid $50 for a watermelon... More

What a pity guests do not make their complaints at the time of their stay . What the writer of this complaint appears to not know is that at the time the single person of this group made the booking she was specifically offered another room, but chose to take the sofa bed in the living area of the Seahorse... Being in Opito bay - one of the most amazing places on the planet - it would be easy to forget the accommodation and hospitality at Leighton Lodge but if you are looking for a character room or small self-catering unit in East Coromandel then see if these lovely people have vacancies! Wally and Marie were great to chat to... More

Leighton Lodge might be a wonderful place, but we wouldn't know, because, despite paying full price, and not being advised previously, our room was given to the hosts' relatives. We were informed on arrival, late in the evening, that we were "overflow", so we would be staying with the neighbours. The room we were given was nothing like what appeared... More

Leighton Lodge is a lovely place to stay in a beautiful location, the beach is fantastic.Wally and Maire are fantastic hosts and really made us feel welcome. Nothing was a problem and the meals were great with lots of local product. We'll definitely return for another visit.

A great way to start our New Zealand vacation after the drive from Auckland to be warmly welcomed by Maire and Wally. We had the comfortable and spacious self-catering apartment but had not brought food with us so Maire rustled up a tasty supper for us on arrival. Delicious breakfasts with home-baked bread were shared in their home overlooking Opito... More

This is the perfect place when you want to relax away from the hustle and bustle in a laid back Coromandel seaside community with a wonderful white sand-beach just a minute´s walk away. The beautifully designed wooden house overlooks the whole of Opito Bay from its hillside location and you can enjoy gorgeous sea- and beachviews from the own private... More

Opito is a lovely bay off the beaten track but well situated for many of the sights within the Coromandel peninsula. There's nothing to do in the bay itself other than to chill out and walk along the beach so those wanting to eat or drink out will need to take a 30 minute drive into Whittianga. Staying at Leighton... More

We stayed at the Leighton Lodge and loved the "off the track" location; 3/4 of an hour over a winding gravel road that landed you at a B & B just back of a one km long bay and beach. The view from our room deck was beautiful. The room was very comfortable and the hosts were extremely helpful and... More

My husband had always wanted to stay in Opito Bay, never having quite made it there before. It is spectacular. It is totally isolated at the end of a fantastic scenic drive which is only partially tar-sealed. Opito Bay has the most amazing beach to walk on where you hardly ever see anybody else out of season. The B&B is... More
