We were struck by this outstanding example of beautifully refurbished Victorian architecture. The Empyre Hotel exudes opulence, grandeur, style and comfort. With its wonderfully high ceilings adorned with deep, rich cornices, soft colours throughout, exquisite traditional timber furniture in the bedrooms, a peaceful well adorned reading room and a tasteful but modern cafe/bar, we slept blissfully on extremely comfortable beds... Impeccable room with beautiful furniture and a fabulous bed, and wonderful hospitality from Angela and Tony. I highly recommend the Empyre and look forward to visiting again - next time we'll check out the wine bar!

What a delightful experience for a short stay in Castlemaine. Tony and Angela were wonderful hosts and made the four us feel very welcome and "at home". As 2 couples we had the deluxe suites with balcony access. Five star without a doubt. The Empyre is the pick of the town and nestled nicely next to the quirky "hipster" Cafe... More

We couldn't have asked more if wanted too. One of the most wonderful stays we have had anywhere. From the moment we were greeted at the door by Tony we felt important. Angela and Tony have the art of hospitality down pat. The room was just gorgeous with its antique French furniture and attention to detail. Pre dinner dinner drinks... More

I didn't know what to expect, I was attracted by 'world class accomodation' claim. This place is astonishing. My room, the Albion Suite had a huge antique bed, (not antique mattress!) chandelliers, a separate living room with a huge couch and an open log (gas) fire. It was an apartment! Its not just the size of the room, but it... More

We did not stay at the hotel , but we stopped off for lunch. I had a pulled pork salad that was excellent. Others in the group had fish and chips The service was excellent and attention to detail was second to none. Quite a surprising find really.

Thank you for the generous review. The Empyre changed hands at the end of April 2014, and now the focus is on the accommodation side. There are many fine restaurants within very close walking distance, Empyre accommodation guests have use of the whole hotel. We also do exclusive functions for between 25 and 50 people seated. More

We did not stay at the hotel but had lunch in their restaurant. It is quite small but has a very interesting menu. The food is first class and the prices reasonable. I managed an italian restaurant and the pasta dish i had for lunch was one of the best i have eaten and my sister said her salmon was... More

The Empyre Boutique Hotel is just gorgeous. The food is incredible. We had lunch and breakfast the following day which is amazing ( I doubt you'll be able to get through it !! ) and the decor is nothing short of exquisite. I stayed in the Empyre room which has a shared balcony however we got along famously with our... More

A quick getaway to the Goldfields and we came across the reviews for this boutique hotel. Booked on the day the smallest (and cheapest) room the Maguire suite, asked for a discount and was politely informed this was not negotiable - no harm in asking !! Greeted by Tony on arrival and checked in with cheerful professionalism. Beautiful clean room... More
