Southern fried chicken burger and chips for $10. Great value, tasty meals. We attended on Market day and it was very steady, so a small tip would be to suggest more staff be rostered on Market days.....there were long waits to order, as one of the staff members just stood there and said she didn't know how to use the... We had a great night at the Federal, friendly staff and customers in the bar, good food in the restaurant, relaxed atmosphere and music for the open mike night in the bar. Overall a great inexpensive spot to stay after spending the day at the Saturday markets held once a month just down the road

This is a great character filled place and exactly what I hoped for in a pub stay. Especially loved the French doors onto the verandah which for me is the epitome of the genre. However... Being a pub you do have to put up with the potential of roudy noisy (and probably drunk) neighbours. The communal showers (albeit seperated by... More

We knew whilst booking that the potential for noise was huge, but it is much noisier than was comfortable, and spoiled the experience of staying here. The room is good for the price paid, yes there are only two bathrooms for all the rooms, that's ok. But the noise would stop me from booking here again. There was a dreadful... More

Came for dinner and a few drinks and found the place to be packed to the rafters being a long weekend (Queens Birthday). Waited a bit inline as the Bistro opened. We were ushered upstairs to the balcony as there was no seating downstairs. What's.great spot to sit and enjoy a meal. Great food and fast service cements this place... More

I live about Ten minutes from the Federal. Its a great place to take friends that come to visit. Lunches are great. Huge modern pub grub. Yeah. Even the fish is outstanding. We are on a huge river and just upstream from the gorgeous south pacific ocean. Good outdoors area at the rear, main street for browsing shops and chatting... More

Congratulations to the Chef and staff - what a surprise, a pub with truly great food! We had the fish of the day, moist, well prepared, perfect snapper! and the lamb rack which was perfectly prepared! Thank you & congratulations!

We have stayed at and eaten at the Federal hotel a number of times and have always gone away very satisfied with accommodation (for the price paid) and have always been happy with the food. That was until our last stay on Thursday night. I was not realy happy on our last stay in October when I noticed the womens... More

No reception, checking in means queuing at the bar. Pleasant enough. Rooms up a flight of stairs round the back. Past beer kegs and storage. No en suite. No aircon. No plug for sink. No hanging storage. No room servicing. Only 2 toilets and showers for all the rooms. No bath. Main exit between the gents loo and ablutions. Communal... More

few of the normal hotel luxuries that I have enjoyed over the years. This hotel lets us see that airco, receptions etc are not so important. The rooms of the hotel are upstairs. No lift, no porters. And no airco, (is downstairs in the bar). Had a fantastic couple of days here. You get an idea of how life might... More
