Stayed here for three nights during my Peruvian vacation last year and I must say this place is amazing. First you take a five hour ride by motorized canoe from the Rio Amazonas Lodge (all trips to TRC leave from there) where youy can spot birds, capybaras, and perhaps some monkeys in the trees if you look carefully. Once there,... more

We took the four-night/five-day trip with Rainforest Expeditions in May 2009: one night at Refugio Amazonas, two nights at TRC and a fourth night at Refugio again. The experience was excellent: we saw an amazing quantity of wildlife, even if the tapirs did stay out of sight! Our guide was outstanding, with extensive knowledge of both flora and fauna, and... more

We stayed at TRC as part of our Earthwatch Expedition devoted to Macaws on the clay lick. TRC is one of the "closest to nature" spots we have ever stayed--wildlife abounds. The accomodations are VERY eco-friendly and very acceptable. The macaws fly right into the rooms. more

Before comming to Peru, we did spend some time in Brazil where five days were spent in the Brazilian Amazon, particularly Manaus. The lodge in Manaus did have electricity and AC, which is not the case with the lodges in Tambopata. Having no electricity and no communication with the outside world while sleeping in a room in the middle of... more

We went to Tambopata Research Center as part of a longer Peruvian rainforest honeymoon. We love seeing animals: birds, monkeys, frogs, etc. We have an incredible adventure: we saw over 340 species of birds in Peru, 8 species of monkey, over two dozen species of amphibians, tapir, peccaries everywhere, caiman, and even an electric eel! The guides we had were... more

TRC is an incredible place to stay and get to know the rainforest. The lodging is spartan but very comfortable, and helps you experience the rainforest in a close and ecologically sensitive way! I tell everyone to go there, the price can't be beat compared to the overpriced hotels tourists normally stay at in cities. The boat rides are beautiful... more

This was my first expedition with Earthwatch Expeditions and organized by Rainforest Expeditions. It surpassed all I had hoped for. The guides were knowledgable and very professional while being very friendly and personable. They tried to make sure we all got to see as much wildlife as possible and also included tidbits about the flora and the amazing insects and... more

My girlfriend and I had a wonderful 12-day adventure at the Tambopata Research Center. By booking the flight and accomodations ourselves through Rainforest Expeditions, the two of us had our own private guide (and saved a lot of money). Our versatile guide met us at the Puerto Maldonado Airport, accompanied us upriver, gave us our 4:00 a.m. wake up call... more

Once again my hubby and I were lucky enough to get off the beaten track. We had spoken to other travelers in Cuzco who had warned about the heat and humidity in the rainforest of Peru. So when we were met at the gate at the airport by our guide . . . and he was wearing a winter ski... more

Everything about our stay at Tambopata Research Center was excellent! Travelling several hours down the river was worth it for the seemingly untouched rainforest. Our guide (Augusto--numero uno!) was great, adjusting our itinerary to our preferences and overseeing our entire experience. All of the guides were helpful, not just the one assigned to our group of four. The staff at... more
