La Cienaga is a beautiful hacienda near the volcano of Cotapaxi. The building and grounds are very attractive. We found it to be a little disappointing compared with the previous hacienda we had stayed at on the trip. The rooms were very sparse and the service was slow, especially in the restaurant. more

We stayed at La Cienega during a trip to Cotopaxi National Park and Lake Quilatoa, the hosteria is a large old hacienda with additions set in lovely grounds. The place was nearly empty on our first night and we were well looked after. The manager made a big effort to chat to us informally in the bar even though her... more

We stayed here in April. We knew it would be chilly. When we arrived they had lost our reservation (made thru an Ecuador travel company). Then, they "found" the reservation a few minutes later. Our first room was huge and the bath fixtures were kind of rusty. There is only a small spaceheater to heat the room. We couldn't get... more

If you are in the area, which isn't very interesting except for its proximity to Cotopaxi, this is really a rather marvelous place to stay. It's at the end of a long allee of old eucalyptus trees, and seems to have kept its authenticiy as a hacienda, though with much reduced acreage. The building and grounds are wonderful, especially the... more

my husband and i stayed for one night on our way from quito to riobamba and absolutely loved it. we were given one of the honeymoon suites on the 3rd floor and had as much fun walking around this fabulous hacienda as we did on the nariz del diablo train ride or at the otovalo market. we went horseback riding... more

We stayed four nights at La Cienega. For the first night, we were given a very small room in an annex building. In the morning we were told that we would be given a better room (we had not complained). The new room was in the main building, three times as large as the previous one. Also the bathroom was... more

As a first-timer to Ecuador and flying in alone, I was naturally nervous when I requested La Cienega to pick me up at the airport. As soon as I got through customs, there my driver was...holding up my name! I was thrilled! The 2 hour drive out of Quito passed quickly as my driver indulged me with everything I wanted... more

My boyfriend and I stayed one night at Hacienda La Cienega in August 2007. His parents are from Quito, and apparently La Cienega is well known to the locals with virtually all middle- to upper-class Quitenos making a visit at some point. So his mom booked us the room. Although his grandmother warned us that she had heard the hacienda... more

Having read reviews on this site, we were looking forward to our 2 night stay at La Cienega. When we first arrived, the hacienda did not disappoint, beautiful setting with view of Cotopaxi and wonderful historical building. However, we found our room was fairly basic, and extremely cold. The oil-filled radiator we were provided with had no hope of heating... more
