These guys have the best homemade ice cream. Almost too many flavors to choose from. I have been there multiple times and have not tried the same flavor twice yet. The mint chocolate is my favorite so far. And the have vegan/lactose free flavors too.

We just happened to stop here because the Belgian waffle stand outside didn't have ice cream- just waffles. The ice cream was the best I ever had. We went back 3 times during our stay on Seneca Lake AND bought a hand-packed pint to take back to our cottage. Very creative flavors that are handmade (so I was told). The... More

The location of the motel is spot on. You are walking distance to everything. The cost of the room was definately overpriced for the quality of digs. The staff were very pleasant and check in was without incident. As we came with one of our teenagers the WIFI was provided and proved to be satisfactory for her. We stayed out... More

Thank you Kevket for taking the time to share your experiences. After reading your review, I immediately went into the room, and brought in two of our staffers and we could not find any odour. I suspect something blew in from somewhere. I wish you would have brought this to my attention immediately and we could have moved you to... More

We stopped here for the incredible handcrafted ice cream. Given that our family is currently launching a farm-to-table creamery, we love visiting other creameries. These guys are definitely an inspiration to us. They take premium ice cream to a whole new level with incredible authentic flavors with no skipping on the ingredients. We had a caramel praline flavor that was... More

The Colonial Inn & Motel may be an older place, but it is clean and loved. The owners are vested in the community. They've added a gift shop, ice cream, a beehive, food......even music at times! It is a welcoming place that my family (when visiting....we live here!) loves to stay! They last stayed in Aug. of 2013....but are coming... More

I heard this place has the best vegan ice cream. I stoped by and had the Pina Colada Vegan ice cream. It was the best ice cream ever. Pineapple chunks, shredded coconut, made with almond milk and some other stuff. Perfect for my lactose intolerance. Awesome.

Thanks Tom for the great review. We take a lot of pride in our small batch homemade ice cream. I am glad you like the vegan Pina Colada. We also offer Mint Chocolate Chip & Mixed Berry as vegan flavors (these are also Lactose Free). And we are happy to see our customers enjoy the fruits of our labor of... More

The Colonial Inn was a great place to stay. Short walk to marina if your traveling by boat as we did. Close to a number of stores for shopping. Also close to a number of pubs for a cold one and something to eat. The rooms while old we found to be very clean and cute. Also priced right.

20-25 years ago I used to come to Watkins Glen every summer for a long weekend and I always stayed at the Colonial Inn. Since I was passing through the area last week I stayed there again. I recall that I always preferred the main house, but there was no availability so I stayed in the motel out back. It... More

RH, Thank you for taking the time to share your experience. I was happy to see your positive comments on our motel and the location, but I was distressed to hear about your experience with my staff. Just spent two days in the area, the beds and pillows were very very comfortable. The hotel staff was very laid back, very family run from what I could tell. They were just putting new flat scenes TVs into all the rooms. They sell pottery as well, very staying at grandma's homey...was a very nice stay for my purpose, but... More

This is our second time in Watkin's Glen and our second time at the Colonial. It's not a modern place, but is a great old place that's still in the 1930's, We feel right at home there, and don't NEED flat-screen TVs, totally modern furnishings, and what all to be happy. The owner's a great guy who also has a... More

Official Description (provided by the hotel)
Welcome to the Colonial Inn & Motel, perfectly located in downtown Watkins Glen, where quality and value meet beautiful and spectacular scenery. We provide a comfortable and restful place for a great night's sleep. We are a few minutes walking distance from a wide variety of sight-seeing and other traditional vacation opportunities including the world famous Watkins Glen State Park, also known as "The Gorge" and its beautiful 19 waterfalls. Conveniently located near other major attractions such as Seneca Lake boat tours, local wineries and their vineyards, Nascar Sprint Cup, Watkins Glen International speedway racing, and more. Check out the 2014 New York's Finger Lakes Region Travel Guide for more ideas (we are featured on page 21). bit.ly/2014TravelGuide This historic motel is an excellent choice for families, business travelers, or those simply road-tripping through the Finger Lakes wine country on a budget. The main building was built in the 1880s and still retains a lot of its vintage charm. The back rooms were added in 1950s and also retain the classic mid-century look and decor of a more peaceful and restful time. (We still use metal keys, not plastic key cards). We are more than a simple B&B resort. We provide free Wi-Fi and free parking, but the secret of our success is our attention to detail to provide clean rooms and a hospitable atmosphere at an affordable price. You will find our staff enthusiastic and courteous with your comfort and pleasure our priority. We offer late check-in, and are open to drop-ins when available. Oh, and while in Watkins Glen, we recommend you try our small batch homemade ice cream, with vegan ice cream. And for our meat eaters, we have our very tasty Beef On Weck sandwich. It has gotten great reviews. We also offer handcrafted pottery, ceramics and other locally created items. You can also view our active beehive and see the honey, if you find the queen bee you get a free small ice cream. ... more   less
