I visited in early 2013, after seeing gorillas in Rwanda. Dian Fossey called Travelers Rest her "second home" and I can see why. The place is filled with folk art -- masks and lots of others -- all of it high to very high quality and all for sale. I have a folk art collection and really enjoyed the collection... More

The rooms were comfortable here and I really like the layout of the building. Hot water in the shower takes about 5 minutes, so be patient. They have a very nice bar/lounge that you can relax in after a long day of Gorilla Tracking. The food at the hotel was very tasty, but I can tire easily of a set... More

This place was incredible! Great large, clean rooms. Meals were excellent. Although, on our third night we encountered a deadly huge spider. So, make sure, if you stay longer than one night, that you ask them to spray the room when they clean it! Otherwise, amazing friendly staff and a very great place to stay! You have to expect some... This hotel was larger than some of the other hotels we had stayed in (I think there were at least 12-15 rooms?), and so it had a slightly less personal touch. However, the rooms were clean and there was hot water, which are all pluses in my book. The food was good, and the banana pancakes at breakfast are seriously... More

Excellent. Room lovely, big, clean, decent bathroom with very hot shower. Staff very friendly. Lovely garden outside to sit and relax. Great bar area inside with a big open fire which was always on! Lots of very interesting literature and information about the gorillas laid out for people to read. Manager always checking we were happy. Wifi worked in the... More

Beautiful colonial-era hotel that brings you back to the movies. There are masks for sale, which are pretty expensive compared to the ones sold on the street; however, it's more likely to be authentic rather than the fakes found on the street. The food in the dining room is pretty expensive and the food was not amazing, but with the... More

Operated by warm, friendly, caring people with a sense of humour and professional attitude, great environment. My vegan diet was catered for beautifully and they checked to ensure I was satisfied with each meal - YES I WAS! Loved this place. Added bonus Dianne Fossey used to stay at Travellers Rest. Simple, clean, friendly, great food and location. Before Gorilla... More

Stayed here for two nights as part of an organised gorilla trek, after being told by my guide not to expect much, I was pleasantly surprised. Staff are engaging and welcoming with good English, it was like coming home to family each time you stepped through the door. The rooms are simple but comfortable (plenty of cupboard space and mosquito... More

This hotel is nicely located in a town with a history, close to the Congolese borders. Unfortunately it is still a 2-hours drive away from Bwindi National Park for the gorilla tracking. When we arrived, we were treated very unfriendly by the staff. The walls of the bedroom were full with mould, as were those in the bathroom. We tried... More

Good location in town just outside the centre. Very clean with a cozy lounge where we chatted to other guests around a log fire. Had a little bar as well. The best thing was the staff. So smiling and friendly They all speak very good English. Food was also very nice. Rooms simple but clean and pleasant, arranged around a lovely garden... More
