Stayed here for two nights as part of an organised gorilla trek, after being told by my guide not to expect much, I was pleasantly surprised. Staff are engaging and welcoming with good English, it was like coming home to family each time you stepped through the door. The rooms are simple but comfortable (plenty of cupboard space and mosquito... More

This hotel is nicely located in a town with a history, close to the Congolese borders. Unfortunately it is still a 2-hours drive away from Bwindi National Park for the gorilla tracking. When we arrived, we were treated very unfriendly by the staff. The walls of the bedroom were full with mould, as were those in the bathroom. We tried... More

Good location in town just outside the centre. Very clean with a cozy lounge where we chatted to other guests around a log fire. Had a little bar as well. The best thing was the staff. So smiling and friendly They all speak very good English. Food was also very nice. Rooms simple but clean and pleasant, arranged around a lovely garden... More

Stayed here for 2 nights. This hotel is centrally located in Kisoro and has a lovely colonial feel. Rooms were very nice and the intricately folded towels and rose petals were a nice romantic touch (my room mate, Chris, did not take the hint though!) Good service, food and value.

I stayed for a night at the Travellers Rest in Kisoro in April 2014, paying US$ 70 for bed and breakfast. I very much enjoyed my short stay and would gladly have remained for a few days more. I have only positive things to say about this hotel. I loved my room, which was airy and comfortable, albeit simply furnished.... More

Something of a landmark in Kisoro as Diane Fossey herself used to stay here, the hotel is styled in a colonial style and has a lot of charm as a result. The bar area in particular is very atmospheric with lots of wooden masks and carvings that add to the charm and are also for sale. Probably the best place... More

The historic Traveler's Rest Hotel has seen better days and is in need of a facelift. The accommodation and meal were fortunately included in our package deal, as it seems overpriced. Pleasant, unexceptional meal and simple breakfast included. The gardens are lovely and lounge is complemented by a atmospheric fire place and bar. My room was shabby, in need of... More

Seemed pretty average for the price we paid in comparison to other places I have stayed at in Uganda. Enjoyed the fire in the lounge. But didn't feel like I got value for money. Stayed in room 4. Highly recommend staying atleast one room away from here as there is a staff room in the corner between rooms 3 and... More

Very nice place to stay while in transit. Stayed here for 3 nights. Mosquito nets were in good condition. Staff was very welcoming, food was very good. Bar was well stocked and the bar staff were always ready to help. My absolutely favourite thing about this hotel was when I'd go on my daily runs, the children from across the... More

Official Description (provided by the hotel)
Travellers' Rest is an excellent place for tourists visiting the endangered mountain gorilla in Southwest Uganda. The hotel, built in a somewhat colonial style, has ten rooms and one suite at reasonable prices. The garden is home to many birds, and in the evenings, when it gets cooler, visitors can warm themselves at the fireplace in the lounge. In the restaurant every evening a fine 4 course dinner is served. "Gorillas in the Mist" researcher Dian Fossey stayed here many times, calling it her "second home". The hotels offers a massage-service, perfect after a long gorilla trekking. ... more   less
