After the spectacular if scary descent into Kisoro there really is just one place to stay in Kisoro - Travellers Rest. I have stayed there on 2 separate occasions now and found the place to be friendly, relaxing and not interfering, giving a homely feel and an oasis away from the daily struggle of Kisoro life. The food is homely... more

I can understand why some may complain, there was no duvet but the bed appeared clean and appearances count for a lot! There were bugs, but it's Africa! The lodge was beautiful, cheap massages, hot showers, excellent food, and wonderful staff. The local orphange came by and sang and danced for us which was truly an amazing experience. Would definitely... more

My husband and I stayed at the Travelers Rest for two nights, it was by far our favorite hotel stay in East Africa. The room was very clean and spacious with two single beds, a table and 2 chairs and a large wardrobe. The en-suite bathroom was very nice, with wonderful hot water shower - just what you need after... more

Traveller's Rest is one of the hotels from which you can create a base for gorilla treks in Uganda and Rwanda and also for golden monkey treks. It is owned by Gorilla Tours out of Kampala and currently has a Dutch manager who is convivial, knowledgeable about the area, well-traveled in Africa and is making a concerted effort to utilize... more

Traveler's Rest Hotel may be the best in town (as some reviewers and guidebooks say), but understand what this means. The rooms are dirty. There are bugs everywhere. I was not sure my bed linens had been cleaned anytime recently (duvet cover, no sheet). The one towel in the room had definitely seen better days. If you don't care about... more

I am a Christian missionary working in Kisoro district with the Bufumbira tribe in the hills outside Kisoro Town. I have stayed at The Travellers Rest for the past 4 years with a fellow missionary. The hotel offers European comfort & ethos, but maintains an African atmosphere. Every year we have stayed we have found the managers, who have always... more

We stayed at the main hotel. Our travel agent somehow screwed up our reservation for 3 people and had booked us at the second building down the road around the corner. The owners, Dutch I think, were great and put 3 of us in a suite; they even took a bed from another room and put it in the living... more

I did not have high expectations for the Traveler's Rest Hotel and I was pleasantly surprised. If you are going gorilla trekking in Nkuringo then this probably the only place to stay within a reasonable distance. The managers were a Dutch couple who were very pleasant going out of their way to greet anyone and make them feel at home.... more

I traveled to Kisoro several years ago (January 2003) to see the mountain gorillas and I stayed at the Traveler's Rest. It really is a lovely property. Beautiful trees and gardens. Quiet and tucked away from the main town. The new owners had just taken over when we were there, so there were a few kinks, but I'm glad to... more

Well... if you want a hotel full of history in a border town with Congo and Ruanda, this is the place for you. Rooms are good. African standard. Well sized overlooking beautiful garde with many birds (even the crested crane couple had its nest on one of the treetops quite near). It was said the hotel was renovated in 1999.... more
