No one will mistake the Abuso Inn for the Tembo (a luxury hotel nearby), but it's 80% as nice for under half the price. It's a family-run establishment, and everyone is very accommodating and pleasant. I negotiated a lower rate for my two rooms, and there was a bit of miscommunication about this at check-out time, but the owner (Hamid)... More

The hotel is well located, we got a room with a nice view to the sea. The staff is friendly. The room was nice. The major problem is the breakfast, that besides not being very good, sometimes takes time to be ready.

We arrived late one Friday afternoon on the ferry with no pre booking and wandered through Stone Town checking out the various hotels and their pricing. After dealing with over eager " tour guides" & surly receptionists on our wanderings we arrived at the Abuso Inn, were greeted in person by the smiling owner and immediately felt welcome. All we... We enjoyed our 3 nights stay at the Abuso Inn. Room was big, comfy, with hot water (once the switch turned on) and mosquito net. Breakfast not fancy but enjoyable and sufficient. Great location to wander around in Zanzibar town. The owner was really nice and took care of us with a good sens of humour.

I stayed at Abuso Inn with two friends. We all live in Dar es Salaam and wanted a not too expensive weekend get-away in Stone Town - away from bustling Dar es Salaam. Abuso Inn was recommended by a friend and we were not disappointed. Very reasonably priced - and with favourable resident rates - Abuso Inn is a bargain... More

A great place to stay if you are looking for something between the 50 dollar and under per night budgety places and the 100-plus a night full-convenience spots. The owner is friendly, knowledgeable, and helpful. Rooms have AC, though no TV or fridgs. My wife and I stayed in a corner room with sea view just before Christmas 09, and... More

I have just had six nights stay at The Abuso Inn finishing off a month's holiday in different locations in Zanzibar. My stay there was not planned but another hotel mixed up my booking and they suggested a night there .... I liked it so much for a number of reasons that I decided to spend the whole of my... More

We were thoroughly pleased with the Abuso Inn. We did not originally make a booking here but had to book at last minute after another hotel failed with our booking. We only stayed one night but the rooms were spotless and were good value. The bathroom was clean and the water was hot. In addition, the beds were all a... More

Zanzibar and the Abuso Inn both exceeded my expectations. I had no idea what to expect from the island so everything about it, from the architecture of Stone Town to the beauty of the beaches, was a delightful surprise. I did think the Abuso Inn would be okay – just - given that it is so cheap, but actually it... More

Rebuilt after the old building collapsed, this is a basic hotel - no phones in rooms, no Internet, no room service - but is pretty (ask for sea view) and has friendly management and staff. You'll have to ask to organise water in the fridge and about laundry, but any queries and the management will always help. Do use the... More
