Hotel is in a walking distance from port in the city centre. Five minute walk from the nice sandy beach. All the shops are in a range of 300m. Also reastaurants with very good fish food are very close.

It's ok to be a budget hotel with basic and simple amenities, as long as cleanliness, functionality, and safety are maintained. Shangani achieves none of the above, and my feeling is they don't care. Most serious problem encountered during my stay - theft: In the middle of the night a thief opened my two second floor windows from the outside... More

We chose this hotel for a 1 day stay because of its good location and rates. however that was a big mistake! The staff are unfriendly, racisit and rude...Also we were advised that the check out time is at 11:00Am, we were down at the lobby by 11:05Am however they forced us to pay additional half day charges claiming we... Stayed in this hotel for one night. I didn't have any advance booking but luckily got a room upon arrival. The hotel is conveniently located in a nice and safe tourist area called Shangani. A famous Forodhani park where you can enjoy a variety of seafood barbecue dinner is just within a short walking distance from the hotel. The hotel... More

Don't know where other reviewers went but I stayed here for 10 days while working and learning Kiswahili in Stonetown. Had a lovely room with a terrace on the third floor. Room cleaned every day with a change of sheets and towels. Air con is noisy but effective and there is a fridge in the room. Piping hot water for... More

I really enjoyed my stay at the Shangani. It was a very simple hotel but clean, safe, excellently located and with mosquito nets over the beds. It was also quite cheap. I didn't have a bathroom in my room but this didn't bother me. I stayed two nights which was more than enough. Breakfast on the roof top is a... More

Went here and stayed for 1 night. The location is good, but totally not worth supporting such rude & agressive people. This is by far the worst place I have ever been or stayed in all of East Africa. The location is good, but tere are loads of hotels in Stone Town! Go to The Haven, The Clove, or anywhere... More

The Hotel is located almost to all accessible location from the Ferry, Shops and Restaurants... The Hotel is average and would recommend for a Day or Two no longer. The staff are friendly and Roof Top the view is amazing of the Stone Town + point for that..... Rooms are infested with insects, I doubt they bother to clean the... More

We came back to Stone Town a day early from our resort as we didn't think we'd seen much on our way in to Zanzibar, and our taxi driver helped us find this place, which is reasonably priced compared to other places we checked out. Staff were friendly and helpful with our bags, and put us in a nice room... More

The hotel is very well located being in the centre of Stonetown within easy walking distance of the markets, alleys, shops and restaurants. The room we had was reasonable, but why there is a TV I don't know as it's useless; the rooms are upstairs and it's quite a steep climb to get to them; breakfast is basic but not... More
