What a wonderful stay! I really cannot understand the previous review - it sounds like they were staying somewhere completely different to the rest of us! The hotel staff are all lovely and very helpful, plus the food was great (my girlfriend doesn't eat any seafood either and she enjoyed a different meal every night). The little private beach is... more

First the good points: -This is very close to the airport which is nice after a long day of travel -Hotel has a small beach and pool -The rooms were clean and did have a nice deck with a table and chairs -Convenient for transfers to Chumbe Island Now for the bad: -We felt that we were inconveniencing staff when... more

Hi, thanks for your review of our hotel and we are so sorry that some aspects of your stay were not enjoyable. We do apologise and appreciate the feedback so that we can do our best to improve, always. We don't remember any family in July with shellfish allergies and who stayed on different floors - at the time of...

Everything about my stay at Mbweni Ruins was perfect. The hotel is just a ten minute ride from Stone Town (free shuttle bus four times a day). A small hotel with just 13 rooms all beautifully decorated, air conditioning and mosquito nets. All the rooms are a stone's throw away from the beautiful beach. You can hear the waves lapping... more

Loved this hotel - not everything was up to scratch, but the setting and staff more than made up for it. Our room, albeit smallish and dark, was clean, mosquito- free and very comfortable. Bottles of water provided every day. Food generally good - but you don't visit Zanzibar for a gourmet experience. Staff were lovely and friendly - but... more

My wife and I stayed at Mbweni for two nights following a weekend spent on Chumbe island. We found this most convenient as the transfer boat from Chumbe departs from this hotel. And, after spending two weeks at basic and/or more affordable resorts we were delighted to have clean sheets, ample mossie nets, fluffy towels, hot showers with good water... more

For the price charged, the hotel simply isn't good enough. My main complaint was the rooms, which seemed to be infested with mosquitoes. After almost two weeks in Tanz and Zanz, we had had minimal (if any) problems with mozzies but this place was terrible. The rooms were very damp and when we walked in we were greeted by a... more

My husband and I stayed here for two nights in the middle of August and we loved it! The view is gorgeous! The beach (and the lounge chairs they provide for you) is great and since it's facing the mainland, you can totally swim there! The pool was excellent: clean, nice and private. The restaurant was good (though we only... more

Pretty good experience, food was OK, service was average, beach was pretty but you can only use it when the tide is in. In a strange location really but reasonable close to Stone Town. more

We spent a few days at Mbweni while on our honeymoon. The location is excellent: nice private beach (although small and doesn't have enough sun loungers), only 10 mins drive from Stone Town (there are three free shuttles there every day). The restaurant/bar area is attractively decorated with beautiful views over the ocean and the food is pretty good: breakfast... more
