This hotel was ridiculously overpriced and terrible. After squeezing the three of us in a twin share room, refusing to give us a third mosquito net, and the bathroom was disgustingly dirty, we found that the toilet did not work and ended up backing up. They made us pay cash upfront, and when we wanted our money back for the... More

I was told about this place by my tour operator in Dar es Salaam. Sais it was a must for anyone traveling to the island. Wow!! This place is incredible!! Great food, amazing atmosphere and wine second to none! Highly recommended. Actually, if you don't stay there you will miss out on a true gem.

This hotel does not deserve its 4 stars. The rooms were shabby and dusty, and while the beautiful ancient furniture made a nice first impression, the bathrooms were horrifying. I regret not having taken a picture - the bath, sink and toilet looked as if they haven't been cleaned in a long while, the shower was covered with rust and... More

We were impressed by previous reviews about the sunset bar so we gave it ago on our first night in Zanzibar. It took 15 mins to receive a warm bottle of white wine which was a bad sign and then we waited 1hour for a few over cooked and undersized prawns. My wife then asked to see the management or the... More

Stone Town is a very interesting place, known as the Spice Islands. I found the Africa House Hotel due to a recommendation of a friend. I came to the hotel and was surprised once past the simple entrance. It is lined with wood and unique fixtures. I looked at a couple of rooms and decided on a deluxe room which... More

We spent a couple of nights at the Africa House Hotel and we were so pleased, we promised to write about the hotel. The former british officer's club offers a distinguished and very charming setting for travelers which wish to relax in style for a couple of days before resuming their adventurous journeys. We felt welcomed and home away from... More

A place to return to. Staff very helpful and food and drinks worth staying. Of course the terrace (bar) is a must and the sunsets just perfect. Only pity that the library is being run down and books may in a few years be beyond reading - too much dampness. Were told that bathroom(s) would be upgraded; this is needed,... More

Having stayed in lodges in Arusha for a few nights prior the Africa House was a welcome stay. The rooms were lovely, very clean and the hotel very well maintained, unlike others that I had reviewed prior to booking. The only minor criticism was the availability of the food on the menus but this may have been as it was... More

Our family party of 16, ranging from ages 8-70, stayed here on the last two nights of a wonderful safari/beach 2 week holiday. It was supposed to be the jewel in the crown, a special 2 nights in a luxurious colonial hotel. We were sorely disappointed. T he food in the bar took one and a half hours to be... More

what a lovely hotel, accomadating staff and lovely service, great food well presented and an excellent bar menu, the main feature must be the view from the bar terrace, what an amazing spot to have a cocktail and watch the sunset go down on your own or with company, the tradewinds restraunt is a wonderfull historical room with an open...
