Absolutely beautiful hotel. Great staff---as other reviewer said, Suliman, Yussuf & Ali are the best! Ask them for restaurant recommendations! Jonathan was wonderful as well! Was only there two night and was treated like a star. Warmly welcomed every time I can into the hotel. This hotel is definitely on the pricier side, but if you want the best of... more

Recently returned from Zanzibar and we loved The Serena. The hotel has a fantastic location and the staff are wonderful. The two doormen, Suliman and Yousef always remembered our names and greeted us in a very friendly manner. The hotel is such a lovely refuge in a very fun and bustling town. We only stayed two nights and wished it... more

Good facilities, with excellent rooms. We used the terrace seafood restaurant which was an unforgettable experience: food, location and service. Not cheap, but a good location for walking in Stone Town and getting to the airport. more

We stayed here for two nights at the beginning of our honeymoon and one night at the end. Both times we had fabulous rooms, we were upgraded to a VIP suite for the final stay. We were given fruit, wine and an arrangement of red roses on both occasions. When we arrived we were given wet cloths and a fresh... more

We were traveling with our children (6, 9 & 11) so had two rooms. They were not interconnecting, but next to one another on the corner (#57 & 58 I think) Which was neat they as they are on a corner. #58 had a room with 2 beds and then an additional room for the 3rd bed which was neat.... more

5 star? Someone can't count. It's 2 star. Run down, just goes in hand with Zanzibar. Don't believe the Travel Brochures, the hotel and Zanzibar are a nightmare. They promote shopping and restaurants here - well where are they? The food is average at best and expensive. Service is friendly but the staff cannot speak English terribly well. Internet was... more

I found this place through Lonely Planet travel guide, called them 1 day in advance, booked, and scheduled the airport pick-up, which they delivered in a timely manner as promised. Really great place, and a perfect way to start your vacation on Zanzibar. This is a 5-star hotel in a traditional Swahili syle in the very center of the Stone... more

The Serena is a beautiful hotel that's centrally located. We stayed here for one night only, as a transit stop. Our room was a double, just down the hall from the reception desk, with a big ornate wooden door and large old padlock. Our room was located on a hallway on the ground floor of the street side of the... more

The Zanzibar Serena is a fabulous choice for accomodation in Stone Town, as it is right on the Indian Ocean and yet still just a 2 minute walk from the heart of Stone Town, allowing for the best of both worlds. The rooms are new, stylish, and ours had a great view of the ocean. It also had a flat... more
