Very good authentic hotel in centre of Stone Town and right on the beach with own swimming pool and terrace over looking the sea, note there is no lift, but it is very Arab in character, look out for Monsoon restaurant nearby in Stone Town a few minutes walk

We stayed over Easter 2015. Things started badly with a noise problem in our room (58). Without going into all the boring details, staff did their best to resolve the issue. It didn't work out, and the following morning we were switched to a different and beautiful room, without asking. Staff were cool with the initial problem, particularly Mr Lameck... More

The Serena Inn has been our family favourite hotel pretty much anywhere for many years now, and our recent sojourn over Easter didn’t disappoint. In fact the charm of this idyllic oasis in the bustle of Stone Town is even more apparent now that a serious competitor has opened up next door. By all rights the new Hyatt next door... More

Beautiful hotel with great atmosphere in a good location in Stonetown. Very busy and buzzy place to be and excellent for exploring the wonderful sites of the town. The nightlife and exotic mixture of cultures makes the place exciting

A tired hotel. Rooms dowdy and bathroom shabby. Close to town and amenities , but restaurant mediocre and wine mostly off!! Had to send back more than one bottle (very expensive for cheap South African wine) that was very off an unpalatable . Would only return for position and nothing else!

Space is at a premium in Stone Town, and so the Serena scores by having a bit more of it and a fine view of the Zanzibar Channel. The public areas are cool and tiled, with a Coast Arab feel to them. The staff are attentive, the food at breakfast varied and mostly good. Having a small stretch of public... More

When I was first researching a Tanzania trip this hotel was my first instinct for a 6 or 7 night stay after safari on the mainland. But the general advice was to stay here one night and then decamp to one of the coastal resorts. We don't like being trapped in remote resorts or hotels really so opted to stay... More

This is a comfortable, well decorated and equipped hotel in a traditional historic building (2 in fact). Room was comfortable with large terrace overlooking the Indian ocean, you can sit and watch the dhows and dolphins go past. Food is adequate although not outstanding and the staff were all excellent, we were very well looked after. The hotel is very... More

We chose the Stone Town Serena for two reasons, location & familiarity with the Serena chain. Having read many reviews about the more far flung resorts we decided to err on the side of caution by being in a location from where all the must see sights were easily accessible whilst still having access to the beach and varied dining... We passed on all of the newer luxury resorts on the east beach to stay closer to town. This hotel is amazing. The architecture, ambiance, food, decor and location all blend together to make this a true experience. Our room had a large private balcony with chairs and hammock. Inside was a large wood carved bed, shutters, wonderful linens and... More
