Booked this place as gift for cousin going for honeymoon. My choice was based on ratings and about 150/300 reviewers had rated it excellent. Cousin enjoyed stay. Rooms are neat bright and service is good. Breakfast is standard. However as its a well priced hotel, expectations were higher. The room and bathroom were slightly small for what they expected. That... More

The Maru Maru hotel is a lovely boutique hotel in the heart of Stonetown. It is a new hotel built and furnished in a traditional style. The staff are well trained, helpful and professional and the bedroons cool, calm and quiet. The view of the sunset over the Indian ocean from the rooftop resturant is magical. Overall a special place... More

We paid $300 US for a deluxe twin room with en-suite bathroom. Although comfortable, the room was small and given the size I would not put it in the deluxe category. However everything was clean and comfortable and it was very central. What really let this hotel down was the breakfast. We ate about an hour before breakfast was due... More

Wonderful experience of stay for food and view. Nice music with dinner and nice hospitality. Located exactly in stone town. Eager to visit soon again. Only lacking is good and economical spa services. All the best for the management team and staff for big business in future.

This place is definitively a hidden gem like many say. It was referred to us by Julie of the Z hotel and we spent a very pleasant night. Rooms are spacious and very clean. The staff were so nice and they accommodated a late check out since our flight was leaving in late afternoon....No charge! Super! Well located and steps... More

The Maru Maru is nestled right in the narrow alleys of Stone Town. Outside the front doors you are in the hustle, noise and smells of Zanzibar but, once you step inside, it's cool, quiet and comfortable. Our reception was friendly and quick, and we appreciated getting into our room around 10:30am, well ahead of the official check-in time. We... More

Was recommended by a friend. Stayed there for 3 nights on the 3rd floor in the new wing. Excellent boutique hotel with amazing friendly services. The room and the bathroom was very bright, modern and clean with modern fixtures. The breakfast on the rooftop had an excellent variety including fresh juices, fruit salads and cold cuts. The hotel is located... More

Our room was clean and bathroom of high quality and Western standards. However, both room and bathroom were very small. Not very comfortable for two people, but we only stayed one night. The A/C worked well and the bed was very comfortable. Noisy room since window was towards corridor/inner courtyard, so we were woken up at 7am. Some sort of... More
