We stayed there in November 2013 in our short visit in Unguja. It was the best place in terms of money out of all the places of 20-30USD that most of the budget travellers stay. We paid 50 USD for a night including breakfast. The breakfast was terrible but thats another story. Its located very near to the port next... More

Very friendly hotel as are the owners. The ammenities are basic, but the hotel is very clean. Upon arrival we negociated the rates with the owner who gave us a big discount. He was very helpful, giving advice. The breakfast in the morning was marvelous, a little bit fattening though. The staff treated us as familly. I would highly recommend this... More

This hotel is situated very close to the fish market, the penetrating smell is present in the rooms. These rooms are dirty, and if electricity falls out, there is no generator, so no cooling in the room. We were going to stay several nights at the hotel, but left immediately bacause of the conditions. The owners insisted that we had... More

I really like this hotel. Good price, reliable internet 95% of the time, walking distance to Mercury's in Stone Town (or the whole city if you want). There is hot water for showers but you have to turn the switch on outside the bathroom door. The owners are really cordial. I asked about a shower curtain and they promptly installed... More

I travelled to Zanzibar with two colleagues for work and chose Funguni Palace Hotel for price and location. While not directly in the heart of Stone Town, it is extremely close to the ferry terminal and not too far to walk to Stone Town either. As we had a number of meetings in the area, it was perfect for us.... More

The location is bad, near the fish market so imagine the smell. The rooms are OK, the included breakfast is terrible, tasteless and the cutlery/glass/plates are dirty. The worst thing about this hotel is the service. The staff are very rude. We had booked 5 days and they demanded that we pay the whole amount and so we did, after... More

Found this hotel when we had to stay an extra night in Stone Town at short notice due to Nairobi Airport fire. $50 for double. Everything worked - there was plenty of hot water, quiet air conditioning, decent sized room, comfy bed, TV in room, lockable cupboard (with key!) helpful staff, taxi there virtually as soon as we ordered it.... We stay three nights in this hotel. In three nights we couldn't sleep at all : music, animals, light... In the bathroom the water balloon was not working. We didn't have hot water and the bahthroom was completely humid. They did the room only the first day of our stay. We booked and paid for a shared bus to leave... More

We had 4 nights at Funguni Palace Hotel. The owner Ali was really helpful with telling where we could eat and what to see in Stone Town. He can also help with transportation and tours. The hotel has a good location, 10 minutes from downtown. The hotel is nice and clean. The price fits with what you get in Stone... More
