This being our first visit to Zanzibar and this being our first hotel there, we were immediately very impressed with the hotel and it's staff. All rooms are truly unique rooms, very spacious and beautifully decorated. Dinner and breakfast on the rooftop terrace of the hotel was great, with very good and fresh food, and a great view. Also the... More

We stayed in the Desdemona, which felt like an oversize room in a mansion. It was decorated with a delightful array of antiques. The bathroom was lovely with all modern fittings. The breakfast was really delicious with grilled vegetables and breads with flavorful honey and chutney. There were other breakfast options available, e.g., eggs and meat. For dinner, we had... More

We stayed at the hotel one night by the end of our trip in Zanzibar. This was really a nice ending of the trip. Very nice hotel. Centrally located in Stonetown. Beautiful and very large rooms. Friendly staff and management. Very good breakfast and rooftop restaurant. We will definitely go back.

All in all, this is a magnificent hotel, very well run, very well catered, and very well done out. If you can afford it then stay here, it's amongst the best in Stone Town. I'll start with the negatives: Because of the positioning of the aircon in the Desdomena room, the cold air blows right onto you through the night,... More

What a fantastic review! Thank you so, so much for taking the time and trouble to write about us. We're so glad that you admired everything and had such a wonderful stay here. Having been built for an Arab Spice Merchant back in 1873 almost all the rooms are spacious and all have very high ceilings. All, too, have glazed... More

We travelled to Stone Town to get married following a safari in the Masai Mara, we arrived by taxi in the narrow streets and then walked approx 150 mtrs to the hotel, as you round the corner you come across this wonderful old former merchants house. We got married whilst in Stone Town, it was organised before we went so... More

Best customer service I have witnessed in Zanzibar. Aside from the beautifully detailed decoration and lovely rooftop view, the wonderful staff - cooking, cleaning and reception - really makes this place special everyday.
