How do you star a restaurant? Relative to all restaurants you've ever been to? In which case the reader needs to know what your experience is. 3 stars from me. Relative to Zanzibar restaurants? In which case 5 stars. I gave it 4. Didn't know what else to do. Staff fantastic. Wine wonderful - order the Trimbach Gewurztraminer- an off... More

My partner and I stayed for 3 nights and it was truly memorable. If I were to summarise: Welcome : Can't be topped.... Room (Lamour) : Clean, spacious, comfortable, colorful.... just stunning and very unique. The beds were large and comfortable, stunning reclaimed wood used for two giant chairs, nice outside patio, large windows with wooden shutters and long lovely... More

My wife and I spent a night here during our honeymoon. What a beautiful hotel. We stayed in Violetta, a gorgeous spacious room with huge windows and drapes. The staff was so helpful, willing to do whatever you needed. Laundry is free. Coffee was served to us on our balcony overlooking the street. We absolutely loved the rooftop restaurant, such... More

Fabulous atmosphere , think yourself away in another time , with beautiful rooms all different , and plenty of character . Mr Emerson passed away 6 weeks ago , but the hotel manager from uk does his utmost and certainly keeps it going up. Rooftop restaurant is perfection and a unique experience ...best food in town and also the original... More

This place is perfectly curated it make it feel more like an experience of Stone Town than just a hotel. The interiors are stunning without sacrificing comfort. I highly recommended staying here -- I stayed for 3 nights in the Violetta Room, which has a wrap-around terrace where they can serve (big) breakfast at no extra cost. The lighting in... More

I could easily picture Hemingway holing up here to write a great novel. The hotel has a shabby chic thing going on that is romantic and literary. The service is good - and I highly recommend having them arrange a tour guide for a walking tour of Stone Town. The real star here is the 4 or 5 course dinner... More

Stayed for 3 nights in this great little 'hotel'. We chose Kate which is undoubtedly the most beautiful of all the rooms, with 2 balconies and lots of billlowing curtains, coloured glass panes and gentle breezes. But dont be disappointed if it is already booked. All the rooms are gorgeous, some smaller than others but no less special. 10 stars... More

Totally enjoyed the experience. This small hotel is truly a taste of the old times in Zanzibar. Wonderful décor, service and food. The nightly dinner on the rooftop is not to be missed. I often tell people about this amazing hotel.

Stayed here for 2 nights in the KATE room which has 2 balconies and is furnished in a quirky style. All the staff were really helpful and breakfast in the roof top restaurant offered great views of Stone Town. The hotel itself is in a good location being perfect for exploring the towns shops/ atmosphere. The evening tasting menu at... More

I had seen the photos of the bedrooms but still wasn't prepared for the reality of their amazing and unique opulence. I was fortunate to stay in three of the rooms, as my brother Russell works there, and each was a different but fabulous experience. I felt like royalty as I stayed my first two nights in 'Kate' near the... More
