Thanks to Emerson's amazing vision and style Emerson Spice is a brilliant gem in our minds forever. We were a party of 7 friends and family spending special birthdays in Africa with Stone Town our penultimate stop on a wonderful holiday on safari in Africa. This hotel is exquisite with glamorously themed (huge) rooms, sensuous fabrics and no detail forgotten.... More

Four of us stayed at Emerson Spice after the completion of a trek up Mt Kilimanjaro in mid September. It was a fantastic way to end our holiday and relax before flying home to Australia. The staff were extremely helpful and organised for all our washing to be done (free of charge) which was mostly very dirty hiking and cold... More

Our group stayed here - and for a few nights myself and my wife tried out the Emerson on Hurumzi which is not a scratch on this place. The Emerson Spice has larger rooms, regular hot water and air conditioning. Also the restaurant on the roof is great. Both the Emerson Hurumzi and Emerson Spice are a bit dark and... More

Thank you so much for your great review. We were so glad that your group were able to stay with us despite all the stairs. There is only one hotel in town with an elevator and that only goes to the second floor. As you say the higher up you go the more light breeze you have which is a... More

Having just returned from our honeymoon we wanted to review all the hotels we stayed in. We spent one evening at Emerson Spice for a well need refresh between our 4 night safari and our beach resort on the beach side of zanibar. Having seen photographs of the hotel online before travelling the true beauty of the rooms cannot be... More

Dear Jo, Thank you so much for taking the time to write such a lovely review. We're so glad that you enjoyed the ambience and amenities and we all want to say for your compliments about the service as well. Yes, Stonetown is all about stairs I'm afraid; elevators are a rarity here being very difficult to install... More

We just recently had the absolute pleasure to stay at Emerson Spice. WOW!! Richard YOU & YOUR AMAZING STAFF DESERVE ALL THE ACOLADES & the Hotel just speaks for itself. What a visionary Emerson must have been. Each room is like stepping into someones fantasy & for three glorious nights that fantasy was also ours. There is nothing to fault... More

Emerson Spice is a well orchestrated renovation of a Zanzibar historical landmark building - an exotic drop into cool. The mystique of Stone Town is well restored here. This hotel is NOT a waterside resort but a true taste of Zanzibar. We had afternoon tea and then breakfast on the elegant balcony - totally immersed in the street sounds below.... More

Thank you so much for taking the time to write such a fantastic review! We're so glad that you enjoyed taking in the sights and sounds of the kazbah from the vantage point of your private balcony. And Belle, without doubt is the best balcony for that! And you slept soundly too despite the mosque's early morning call to prayer... More

From the moment you enter this amazing establishment you are transported to another world! I had expected this - to be honest - and we weren't disappointed. Our only disappointment was the fact that we were unable to meet the extraordinary Emerson himself who had sadly passed away only a week or so before we arrived. However, we were given... More

for taking the time to write such a fabulous review. We're so glad you were able to enjoy the Emerson Spice ambience and so sorry you didn't meet 'Babu Emerson'. We always recommend The House of Spices as a great alternative to our restaurant as not only is it excellent, it is only a five minute walk away.... More

We recently stayed at Emerson Spice at the end of a five-week long trip around East Africa. I can safely say that this is not only the best place to stay and eat in Stone Town, but it was also by far the most welcoming, luxurious and elegant hotel we stayed in during our trip. The staff were attentive without... More

We stayed here for 6 nights (5 nights in Kate one in Aida) and cannot stop talking about it as the best hotel we have ever stayed in. It really spoilt us aesthetically, and we now have to try not to measure other hotels that we stay in by this standard - they will never compare!!!!! The hotel staff deserve... More

Dear Sergey, What a fabulous review! We're all very flattered that two New Yorkers on their Honeymoon were so impressed with Emerson Spice and chose to use the hotel as a base to explore the island. Everyone, especially Sabri and Omar, from the hotel staff asked me to say . Now we just need to wait another year until... More

This is the sort of place that makes you smile all the time. Wonderful helpful and friendly staff from the manager to the waiters, delicious food, fascinating rooms - I was entranced. Forget the resort hotels (I stayed in two disappointing ones) - Emerson Spice was by far the best bit of Zanzibar!

Delia! We're so glad that you enjoyed your time here so much and that we made you smile. Emerson's philosophy was that if you stay in a hotel that you should be able to enjoy yourself, Hence features like an outdoor bath and a swing on the balcony. All our rooms bar one have outside space with with either a... More
