The decor and woodwork in this hotel takes your breath away. The airy entryway, the views from the roof, the attention to detail in the courtyard and enchanting fountain - really amazing and very unique. Our room - violetta - was huge and had a lovely tub. The mosquito net billowing and call to prayer close by was quite enchanting.... More

A very special place, so glad I found it on Tripadvisor. Loved the decor, the welcome and all the practical things including the mobile phone to use and the 1961 guide to Zanzibar. And especially liked the fact of the all in deal. You pay upfront and don't need to worry about all the endless extras. And the included wifi... More

A lovely boutique hotel very well located. it is a renovated house in the original Zanzibar style with local furniture. Each room is named after an opera character with its individual style and many have balconies looking over Stonetown. There is a great rooftop terrace for sundowners and 5 course prix fixe dinners which are very good value. The manager,... More

It started already when I booked a room - confirmed that i wanted to stay 2 nights in the Kate room for 250 USD/ night. I received a confirmation and then an e-mail saying - "we have a spring offer so you will only pay 200 usd/night and we give you one free dinner for 2 included in that price".... More

Emerson Spice is glorious. Right in the heart of Stone Town it's one of the most established hotels in the area and it shows inasmuch as the management - Russell - is hugely knowledgeable about where to go and what to do. The staff are delightful, the five course tasting menu fabulous - and not overwhelming or too much as... More

The Emerson Spice was such a great experience. The customer service there is so great – so welcoming and they waited on us hand and foot. Our room, known as Kate – named after Katherine Hepburn – was just so unique and cool. There are two big balconies, one of which has an outdoor shower (there’s also an indoor shower... More

Emerson Spice is the best hotel I have ever stayed in: the design is thoughtful and flawless; the food is delicious; and the staff, especially Manager Russell, are perfect. They cannot do enough for you, and made me feel like Katherine Hepburn, after whom my room was designed. I came here for R&R from deployment in South Sudan, and it... More

Don't even think about visiting Zanzibar without overnighting in Stone Town and in Emerson Spice. This quaint boutique hotel transports you through time to 19th century at a very personal level. Fantastic rebuild in an old property in Stonetown. Every room is unique and the food served at the rooftop restaurant is just magnificent. Some rooms have a large balcony which is adviceably to try to get a hold of. It can get very hot in Stonetown.

We were only there for dinner. The food was delicious, the best on our trip! They also provided a guide back to the main road so we could find our way back to the hotel. Only complaint was that the meal felt rushed.... Rather sad.
