We were 3 couples on our first trip to Zanzibar - may there be more! And it's unanimous, the highlight of our week here was Emerson Spice Hotel, in Stone Town. We spent 4 days at the hotel, just over the Eid al Fitr celebrations. So we had a fabulous, colourful backdrop to our stay, outside, as well as inside... More

I had 2 nights here which coincided with the beginning of Eid. From the start my stay here was very unique & unlike any other hotel I've stayed in. Due to the narrow streets you can't drive to the entrance so my driver carried my bag along narrow winding lanes. Once I arrived I was mesmorised by the beautiful building,... More

Zanzibar was a midway point during a 5 month overland journey from Cairo to Cape Town. I wanted to experience its layered history, cultural beauty, and taste a bit of its fabled opulence. This boutique hotel celebrates the beauty of the islands' spice trade roots with its artisanal craftsmanship of furniture, tapestries, and glasswork. Each room is individually themed (mine... More

If you are going to Stone Town, don't even think about other hotels than Emerson Spice. We stayed 2 x nights and were blown away by this unique and charming hotel. The rooms are superb, the same with staff and the rooftop restaurant. However, the 5 course menu in the roof top restaurant was maybe more exotic and special than... More

I have to say that this was the most interesting stay I have ever had. You cannot drive to the entrance, you must be walked in which is an very unique experience in itself, as you pulled you bag along cobble stone corridors. You will be met with a smile and the smell of an older, classier world. From an... More

Dear Sumie, What can I say? What an amazing review of our Hotel. Thank you! The Team are so proud that you enjoyed your single night's stay so very much. Sometimes, arriving having to walk through the labyrinth that is Stonetown, can be a little daunting, which is why we always ensure that our hand picked drivers park as near... More

Like many others, we chose the Emerson Spice based upon recommendation of friends and the TripAdvisor reviews. We were not disappointed at all. The location is easy to find, and a good spot for exploring Stonetown. Note that taxis cannot drive to the door due to narrow paths, so your luggage will be rolled/carried for a ~200m. The service was... More

The Emerson Spice hotel is a beautiful hotel in the heart of Stone Town. Every room is uniquely decorated, giving you the impression that you really are in a palace. What I really appreciated was that each room has its own balcony, allowing you to watch the sunset or have breakfast (really delicious) watching the city waking up. Do not... More

Dear Marie, Thank you for taking the time to write such a complimentary review of Emerson Spice. We're so glad that you appreciated all the different Interiors of the individually designed rooms. An amazing hotel right in the heart of Stone Town. Beautifully restored and decorated, the rooms are truly stunning and perfectly fitted with all the amenities you would need, including locally sourced soaps, a grass/straw bag with beach towels for trips to the beach or to fill with shopping, an umbrella in case of a shower and a cellphone with... We stayed on our last day/night in Zanzibar. Russell and the staff were welcoming and more than helpful. We stayed in Aida which was perfect for our family of four. Gorgeous decor with flowing curtains, high ceilings and views into the bustling streets below. Breakfast on the rooftop was a lovely was to start the day. We easily organized our... More
