We loved this beautifully decorated hotel conveniently located in Stone Town to enable easy exploration of the alleyways and historical sites. All arrangements for airport pick up was efficiently handled by the Hotel and we arrived to a warm welcome from Russell and the reception staff. We stayed in Aida, a family suite with great atmosphere. A spiral staircase lead... More

When we decided to go to Zanzibar we were a little outside our comfort zone, but after spending a few nights here we soon realized how the hospitable nature of the place and people together with the authentic architecture made this holiday a once in a lifetime experience. The breakfast on the balcony was absolutely fantastic, with fresh simple ingredients!

Stepping into Emerson Spice House is stepping into a bit of the aromatic history of Zanzibar. The rooms are so very spacious. The bath/ cum shower is open to the sitting area – but so nicely done. If you are finicky about open showers these rooms may not please you. The four poster bed with the mosquito net draped around... More

Overall I would recommend this romantic hotel set in a +100 year old building with beautiful wooden carved features like windows and doors. However, it must be pointed out that the hotel is in due need of a slight refurbishment. For example the room concrete floor was not painted (or if so with a matte paint), polished or sealed making... More

Staying at the Emerson Spice Hotel was a wonderful experience. Stepping into the large wooden doors felt like entering the tale of Thousand and One Nights, every detail is absolutely beautiful and the staff is great. We stayed at the Camille suite, and for sure we will be back again. Also, the stories we heard around town about the founder,... More

We were 3 couples on our first trip to Zanzibar - may there be more! And it's unanimous, the highlight of our week here was Emerson Spice Hotel, in Stone Town. We spent 4 days at the hotel, just over the Eid al Fitr celebrations. So we had a fabulous, colourful backdrop to our stay, outside, as well as inside... More

I had 2 nights here which coincided with the beginning of Eid. From the start my stay here was very unique & unlike any other hotel I've stayed in. Due to the narrow streets you can't drive to the entrance so my driver carried my bag along narrow winding lanes. Once I arrived I was mesmorised by the beautiful building,... More

Zanzibar was a midway point during a 5 month overland journey from Cairo to Cape Town. I wanted to experience its layered history, cultural beauty, and taste a bit of its fabled opulence. This boutique hotel celebrates the beauty of the islands' spice trade roots with its artisanal craftsmanship of furniture, tapestries, and glasswork. Each room is individually themed (mine... More

If you are going to Stone Town, don't even think about other hotels than Emerson Spice. We stayed 2 x nights and were blown away by this unique and charming hotel. The rooms are superb, the same with staff and the rooftop restaurant. However, the 5 course menu in the roof top restaurant was maybe more exotic and special than... More

I have to say that this was the most interesting stay I have ever had. You cannot drive to the entrance, you must be walked in which is an very unique experience in itself, as you pulled you bag along cobble stone corridors. You will be met with a smile and the smell of an older, classier world. From an... More
