St Monica's is attached to the anglican cathedral & old slave market. Basic clean safe accommodation in heart of stone town. Check the room you are getting as they vary. Some have en suite & air con. V handy for nearby market which is an experience. Friendly.

St. Monica's Lodge is on the site of the Old Slave Market/ The Anglican Cathedral in Stone Town. A beautiful old building with a peaceful & serene atmosphere, it also houses St. Monica's Restaurant. Worth visiting in combination with a trip to the Old Slave Market/ The Anglican Cathedral in Stone Town.

We ended up staying at St Monica's for a total of about 10 days during our visit to Zanzibar. It was hard to leave the lodge. We had a peaceful room with a balcony overlooking the cathedral. The room was very clean and the sheets and towels were changed every two days. I think you could ask for more but... More

Stayed here for one night while passing through Stonetown. The building is very beautiful and historic if a bit run down. Room was for the most part acceptable except bedding which was stained and pillow case appeared to have mud on it! Bathroom was a disgrace; shower drain blocked so shower flooded, sink out of action. Toilet seat filthy. Another... More

Inside the old slave market, with great terrace from the room, good wifi, nice staff. Breakfast was good enough. Good location, close to dala data station, ATM, 5 minutes away from the harbour and the food market.

I had a nice room, looking out on the church, with veranda. Of course the mosquito net had holes, but I was getting used to that. The bathroom had NO warm water, even after complaints. Normally in Tanzania that is not a problem, because of the heat, but now the rainy season just started and it poored all day, the... More

Dear Jan, Thanks for your review and for helping us increasing our service! Regarding the nets, it happens that when we clean it or after a while it falls into disrepair but we try to always check it before using it. I apologize for this inconvenience and believe that the house keeper simply didn't realize it! As far as I... More

St Monicas is close to the main Dalla Dalla bus stops, a few minutes walk from the old fort and next to the Anglican Church - a great location. Rooms are great value for money, clean and there is good wifi. A good low budget choice for stone town

We stayed here for three nights and the staff were so helpful in every way. We needed to get the time of our flight checked as all previous one had been altered and we didn't want to miss our connection back to the UK, we wanted to book a trip and my daughter wanted her hair braided and they sorted... We had beautiful days at the hostel, everybody was nice and comfortable. The breakfast was good, the place historic, we had free WIFI..we had a room with the sharing bathroom, but it was almost good, no Problem. Only the waterpressure was a little bit small, but that is quite usual there, no Problem so far.
