I stayed in Kiponda for 2 nights in Jan. 2016. The overall experience is not impressive at all. The email response for my inquiry was replied very quickly. When I asked for direction from ferry to hotel, I was told someone will meet me at the ferry. I emailed several days prior to my arrival to let them know my... More

The name is rather confusing. It is the Kiponda B&B that I am reviewing. The staff was responsive to my emails and they arranged for a driver to pick me up at a much better price than the taxis there. I made reservations directly with them for a much better price than the travel websites. The room was pleasant and... More

Kiponda Hotel is located few meters from the Old Fort and is quite good accommodation except the rooms on level 0. First night we've booked via Booking.com and got a room (no.3) just with fun. It was gloomy, stifling with small and totally uncomfortable beds and overpriced rate - Booking.com price 82 USD, reception price 60 USD - and unfortunately... More

Just next to the Ferry terminal, and within stone throw to House of Wonders, the Fort. It's in the labyrinth of Stonetown streets so finding it the first time can be hard. Staff is nice and they have a much needed terrace. However, I would not take tours through them. Most tour operators are shady and do not offer what... More

Kiponda is a great hotel in Stone Town. Friendly staff and nice surroundings. The rooms are clean and it feels safe. It was a bit pricy but you do get a decent value. Breakfast was ok but nothing special.

The hotel is situated in a very narrow alleyway, but a few steps away, it opens out and very quickly you find yourself on the seafront. The rooms are quite basic (mine felt a little cell-like with its small high window with bars) but they are well kept and the beds comfortable. There's always the upstairs terrace for somewhere pleasanter... More

Rooms are clean and the service is okay. There is a nice terrace on the roof and the breakfast is also not to bad. BUT better be carefull when booking a organised tour at the hotel. We went snorkeling and while we were out the boatsman stole money out of our wallet!

I stayed two weeks in this hotel while I was taking a Swahili course and visiting the Island and I found it very comfortable. I loved the room, the terrace and the copiouos breakfast supplied. I also loved the friendly and super helpful staff. It felt like home. It was a place to stay and come back to. A great... More

The hotel was actually closed during our school trip to Zanzibar because of refurnishing and fixing up the hotel. But they hadn't informed us about it, so they opened it up for us the nights we stayed over. The beds were good, the mosquito nets had som holes, but not as big as many other I've seen in Zanzibar/Tanzania. They... More

If the rooms are only basic, everything else is amazing. The location is just perfect, the building looks charming, you have wifi on the rooftop terrace, at the same place you can have breakfast and have a few drinks in the evening. The staff is very friendly and helpful. If he has time, Jimmy will entertain you with stories about... More
