I stayed there with my father and aunt but we had seperate rooms. The staff was very nice to us. The restaurant was a great location at the top of the building, very nice and breezy. The first day we arrived we had breakfast there and the sugar packets were damp as we asked for them to be changed. The... more

Unfortunately this hotel have a problem with both their staff and their management. We stayed at the hotel for 2 nights and until the morning we were leaving were very impressed; we had a lovely room which was well equipped and maintained and furnished in a typical Zanzibari style. The location of the hotel was great too. BUT, the day... more

For anyone looking for a large room with room views, this is NOT the hotel for you. The width was just a little larger than my double bed, and the windows opened up onto the wall next to it. However, the bathroom was spacious, and the room was modern and very clean. AC worked wonderfully, large, flat screen TV, and... more

We stayed in Stone Town for one night on our honeymoon and absolutely loved the Al Johari. Rooms are great and the bathrooms (complete with 'massage showers') are really modern and clean. We had a few sundowners in the bar which has great views over the rooftops and then an amazing dinner in the restaurant. Would definitely recommend it. more

I loved the Al Johari. Regretably, I had to stay in Dar instead of returning to Stone Town for the jazz festival so I couldn't stay there again. The rooms are small and the place is a little cramped because it's a building packed into the "casbah" area of Stone Town, in the windy alleys. There is a muslim school... more

We loved Al Johari! We stayed there for three nights over New Years. The hotel is incredibly clean and the staff works hard to keep it mosquito free. Everyone is friendly and the breakfast (included) was quite good (omlettes and fresh fruit plus much more). The hotel had a great location in the heart of Stone Town near the water.... more

we stayed at Al johari for 2 nights between Christmas and New Year. This hotel should be avoided at all costs. If you do have to stay, just make sure they don't have you Credit card details. When we arrived they claimed that our travel agent had not reconfirmed the booking and that they no longer had a junior suite available.... more

I didn't stay at the hotel, but my friend and I wandered by and decided to go to the restaurant for lunch. The restaurant, with a full menu, was empty. We decided to sit in the lounge area because of the view of rooftops and the ocean. It only had a bar/snacks menu, but it was so hot we didn't... more

The Junior suite cost us $200 per night and was tiny - a huge bed in a small room that smelled of damp. We also found out that the spa advertised on the website isn't actually open yet - one of the main reasons we chose the hotel. We complained, and got upgraded to the Deluxe suite which was a... more

We have just returned from a fantastic holiday in Zanzibar. We stayed in Stone Town for five nights at The Al Johari and I don't think we could have chosen a better hotel. The location is excellent, close to all the main sights and some good restaurants and you feel safe walking to and from it at night as it's... more
