We only stayed here one night on our way to the Serengeti but would happily have stayed longer. Getting the balance right between Cold nightly temperatures (the water bottles- yes in africa), chemical toilets, manual showers and animals wandering through the camp and all in a "temporary" tent may sound like an impossible task but the camp manager and staff really... We arrived at dusk. Waiting for us were the hot towels and juice. Also the campfire was going. We were the only guests here, due to the unwarranted Ebola worries 4,000 miles away! We were treated like kings and queens. Because this is just outside the crater, a ranger was there - with a gun, just in case. And wouldn't... More

My wife and I stayed here for two nights as part of an OAT safari. This was our most memorable camp. This is what an African safari is all about!! Real tents with bucket showers. Staff brought hot water whenever you wanted a shower. Bucket system works well. Staff put hot water bottles in your beds while you ate dinner... More

This camp is well placed for a trip into the Ngorongoro Crater. As we understand it the operator only has a licence for one season at a time, so things might prove changeable from year to year. Being at altitude it is chilly, so bring that fleece. The tents were an OK size and came with a thick duvet and... More

What better camping experience can one have than having a cape buffalo munching on grass right in between tents at night or returning from a game drive and having to wait for zebras to move from your doorstep? A quartet of elephants stopped us prior to entering the campsite, literally blocking the road and threatening to charge us. Staff was... More

Kirurumu tent camping was having a real African adventure. The tents were very comfortable with a very welcoming staff. We had a fire to enjoy the sunset and excellent meals. We had to schedule the time for our showers but the water was hot and I had plenty for washing my hair. There were some animals lingering in the woods... More

we were really looking forward to this after 4 days camping but I was very disappointed. The tents are lovely and spacious but the bed was a little 'saggy' the setting is a bit dismal and they lit us a tiny fire which gave out no heat, (it is very cold!!!) The meal was terrible. the soup was OK but... More

Thank you for your review. I am sorry you were disappointing with this camp and please be assured this impression is rare. Like you kindly pointed out, the vast majority of our clients enjoy this little camp by the Ngorongoro Crater rim. I think the thing here is that we aren't a lodge but a small seasonal tented camp. Yes... More

We stayed at Kirurumu camps for our entire 8-day Tanzanian safari in late February and were very satisfied. Ngorongoro Camp, where we stayed 2 nights, is a mobile tent camp meaning that it moves at various times of the year. When we were there it was located on the rim of the crater a few minutes from the entry gate.... More

We stayed 2 nights, booked directly through website. Bed was the most comfortable along our 8-day safari, and we had a very warm double duvet - essential when you wake up to a temperature of just above +5C. Shower was good and hot, although manual, i.e. you order shower for a specific time, but this is common at all tented... More

The camp is situated a the Ngorongoro crater rim and is quite small. Only ten tents and a small camp fire area in the middle. The staff was super, service and food great and the tents had all the amenities you need. We even had two huge water buffalos in the camp at night! Exciting and a bit scary at... More
