We wanted an informal place to take a few polo lessons. We wanted a relaxing environment but also tuition matched to our beginner standard. Rod, Christian, Tracey and Polly looked after us superbly, matching our experience level with perfect horses, just the right intensity of lessons and chukkas, whilst making sure we had fun the whole time. And after some... More

The family feel of Franshoek with Tracey, Christian & Polly is remarkable and most enjoyable. Add the undisputed coaching talents of Rod into the mix and this becomes polo paradise. Coaching & stick & balling in the morning, outrides meandering through the beautiful scenery and then some great chukkas in the afternoon. With some really good horses to choose from,... More

If you work in a major city (for me, London) then it is hard to find places for true relaxation. Even on so-called paradise islands, emails and text messages beep around your sun-lounger. Not here. Franshoek Farm is a rare, precious gem. A number of KM from the nearest town (Ficksburg) and set in glorious mountains, the location is special... More

Franshoek is the perfect escape from everything else. Your hosts, Christian and Tracey, give the farm a very relaxed atmosphere and the scenery is wonderful. The polo pitch is one of the prettiest you will ever see. If you don't play polo you can watch from either the polo coach's front garden (Roddy will almost certainly host a cottage party... More

I made two trips to Franshoek in 2010 so clearly I have voted with my feet! Tracey and Christian have built a brand new self-catering lodge over looking the valley with a beautiful views that you can enjoy from its terrace. The Stables as they have called them are situated on their farm outside of Ficksburg in the beautiful Drakensberg... More

Family skiing holidays were the best but for some years now, instead of our happy family group skiing together, our children have bombed off up their second mountain before my wife and I have barely got our skis on! Polo at Franshoek and the neighbouring Uitgedacht polo farm is the solution. With a family polo team the teenagers are back... More

I have visited The beautiful Drakensburg Mountains many times in the past and played polo on what must be this most spectacular polo field set as it is against the mountain backdrop and lines of rustling poplar trees......WOW! The feeling when you come off the pitch is and enjoy a subdowner at the infamous 'Rod's cottage' looking down on the... More

Firstly the negatives, I think the cost of the accomodation should be about 30% less than it is. After that, you could not imagine a more beautful, fun and effective place to enhance your polo game. Rod has been been a part of top flight polo forever and has a fantastic ability to ipart his skill on any and all.... More

This is a place that has some aspects of everything - you need not care about polo or horses , you,ll still find something to lift your spirits around every corner. The owners are also it's greatest assets - they casually facilitate all the experiences that are worth having but leave you space to enjoy the discoveries in your own... More

We had a fantastic stay at Franshoek enjoying the scenery and hospitality and, of course, the horses. Polo was adapted to suit what we wanted and our skills and we even managed an 'away fixture' at Uitgedacht which was also beautiful. More
