Wonderful up-to-date, yet rustic lodge in Wanakena. Great food (our group is definitely "foodies"), attentive and knowledgeable staff. Bedrooms and common areas were roomy and well-appointed. Computer available for those who must be connected. If you like backcountry skiing, snowshoeing and relaxing with friends this is the place for you.

We love the Packbasket, Wanakena, and Cranberry Lake. Rick is a very knowledgeable fly fisherman and helped us a lot with gear and a canoe. Breakfast was great and we both looked forward to it. We would definitely stay there again. We regards to other comments about the owners, make a little effort and it will be rewarded. Gary and... More

What a great find - a 4 bedroom log cabin B&B - modern facilities yet rustic....in a quaint little Adirondack hamlet of Wanakena....near the Oswegatchie river. Not a fancy resort with activities laid out for you but a beautiful (new) building, nice living area and huge bedrooms/baths ...within walk of the general store and the babbling river. Stay here next... More

We stayed at PackBasket for two nights last week and had a delightful time. The breakfasts and dinner were first rate, and included a vegetarian option for me, which I greatly appreciated. Rick seems to have a boundless knowledge of the region and when he heard that we were there to hike, he immediately provided maps and good advice. And... More

The lodge itself is lovely. We were impressed by the rooms. All is very woodsy and full of pine. We got our orientation from Rick and although he seemed impersonal and rushed ( rather on “cruise control”) we were delighted by the looks of the place in the woods and even talked about coming back to go fly fishing next... Our goal has always been to provide a great Adirondack experience for our guests, many of whom have become dear friends. This is the first time in our 9 years of operation we felt compelled to make such an offer to someone staying with us. Without going into detail, we believe were justified in doing so in the best interest... More

This was my second stay at Packbasket, and my wife and I are delighted with this place. The lodge is beautiful, Angie and Rick are very knowledgeable about the area, and very helpful. Breakfast is fantastic. Both of my stays were in the summer/fall, but this would be a great place to stay for a winter adventure.

Though I was only there briefly, I found the PackBasket to be a very nice place. The facilities are very well kept, extremely clean and fresh. The host is welcoming, though not very accommodating to late arrivals. The breakfast was tasty and freshly made, though a little less than I expected.

Went to Wanakena with friends. With four couples we were able take over the lodge. We found perfect snow for cross-country skiing on the Peavine Swamp trail one day and had a wonderful ski to the Janeck's Landing lean-to (2.8 miles). Quick ski back across Dead Creek flow to the easier part of the trail. The lodge was the perfect... More

We've stayed here on five occasions over the years, all for winter snowsheoing trips. Rick and Angie have built a super comfortable beautiful log home, only 100 yards from access to one of the most pristine wildernesses in the North East. Some years we've been on trails, that have not been travellled since fall. Wanakena is a tiny hamlet, home... More

Being from the Chicago area, the Packbasket is not the closest vacation spot for us to drive to, but we have found an absolute gem! We recently returned from our 5th time there and cannot wait for the 6th. So why do we keep making the trek to the Adirondack Park area? First, we love the outdoors and were looking... More
