This hotel used to be fantastic but in the past 5 years its turned into more of a Econo Lodge then what the HIE standards really are. I think the hotel is just falling apart. I don't know if they had a management change but nothing is as good as it used to be. If a chair breaks in the... more

Good first impression but a stream of mishaps lowered out rating to two stars: * Horrible breakfast: comparable to the airplane menu. Bring along your own yogurt & a banana. * Horrible housekeeping service who enters your room w/out knocking or tries to enter at 8am * Dry laundry: promised to finish in 8hrs took them 2 days: had to... more

The front desk staff was very pleasant until my very early morning checkout. Tricia was on duty and was very rude when I asked why my rate had gone up $42 for the last night of my 5 night stay as I had been told a set rate and was shocked by the increase. She then proceeded to call another... more

As the General Manager for the Holiday Inn Express Stony Brook I take great pride in our hotel and staff. We do our best to make all guests stays a pleasant experience. Rates do tend to increase on Friday & Saturday nights during the busy season. As for Tricia our Night Auditor, I have constant reassurance from guests with positive...

My rating of the hotel is based on comparisons with other Holiday Inn Expresses in other locations of the country - not other Long Island hotels - perhaps they are all disappointing. This one is very expensive and poorly maintained. The first impression of any hotel room (before you turn on the light) is the smell. This one smelled like... more

The Management and staff at the Holiday Inn Express Stony Brook takes great pride in the hotel. In June 2009 we completely renovated all guest room suite. In 2006 we were the proud recipients of the IHG National Renovational Award. Our deluxe hot breakfast is rotated daily for a great variety of eggs, bacon/sausage, 100% Arabica coffee and the famous...

I visited this hotel with my son while touring Stony Brook University, which payed for our stay (although initially they lost the information from the school, so the error had to be cleared up). While the reservation process was great, very pleasant actually, the actual hotel staff seemed very ill-trained. For example, the only type of room that was available... more

Thank you for your kind remarks about our friendly staff at check-in/out, as well as, the comments about the cleanliness of the hotel. We take great measures to make sure the guest experience is a pleasant one. As per the Intercontinental Hotels Group policy we do not premake the sleeper sofas. It is done upon the guests request. I do...

A last minute stay was a good choice. Friendly staff, clean, a very nice HIX...and I've seen a few. The rooms are spacious and cleaner than most. ONE COMPLAINT The maid(?) hits the door loudly (more than once with her cart?) apparently with intent to get you going in the morning. This was particularly annoying because we arrived so late... more

This hotel plays to be "luxurious", but in practice most B&B's are better. Let's list the problems: The checkin person didn't know (at 1:30 am when I wanted to sleep for my talk next day) how to deal with the direct bill booking. Heating didn't work properly and was noisy, and the janitor new less about fixing it than I... more

When I checked in the rate on the check in sheet was twenty dollars more than what I booked on the Priority Club website. The desk person was not apologetic and I was not impressed. The room was clean. The bathroom ceiling tile supports were a bit rusty. The free beer and cheese and crackers were nice. I just have... more

We recently had a horrible experience at one of your hotels in NY. Unfortunately, it was probably the result of one bad employee, but even when I explained the situation to the manager the next morning, little effort was put forth in making me feel better. Here's what happened. We arrived at 2:30 am with 5 small kids in tow.... more

The Holiday Inn Express was a great location for a few days stay. My only concern was there was limited gluten (wheat) free breakfast available. Wireless internet in the room and walking distance to supermarkets and dining. 24 hour access to coffee in the lobby was appreciated. Staff were very helpful and understanding, the housekeeping staff seemed a very happy... more
