The Mainstay Inn is a hidden jewel, one of my most memorable places I’ve been to thus far. When you walk into The Mainstay, you’re not quite sure what to expect, but as soon as you meet Elizabeth the owner, you know you’re in good hands. We stayed in Room 5, The Master Suite. It has a very eclectic &... more

My boyfriend and I decided to head to Southampton for the weekend. We enjoyed our accomodations, breakfast and the fabulous pool. I definitely would recommend this inn. You are guaranteed a clean and environmentally friendly room. The owner of the property is also very lovely and the resident poodle, Talula, is a doll. more

If location is the key in buying real estate, it certainly also is the key in choosing a vacation destination. Mainstay's location in the heart of the Southampton estate area, just blocks from Gin Lane and the Ocean is the only place I would stay in the Hamptons. Not for me the noisy conjestion of Rt. 27, aka Montauk Highway.... more

The Mainstay is the best hidden secret of the Hamptons! Tucked into the estate neighborhood of Southampton, just a few miles from the beach and the beautiful town of Southampton you'll find The Mainstay. It's a beautiful classic house that continues to be made more beautiful each year by the home's owner/inn keeper. The feel of the B&B is that... more

I was not happy with our stay. Individually the issues I had with the inn were not too bad but collectivly it makes for a not so great experience. First, I called to find out availability and I was told the room was $295/night. I said I would discuss with by boyfriend and call back. When I called back the... more

In response to the negative review from the guests I would like to respond firstly by saying that the price of the room was $325. We have given discounts this season due to the poor economy and when these guests contacted us they were given the discount price. They made the reservation another day and did not tell us that...

We read all of the reviews about the Mainstay in advance and were pretty excited when we got there to enjoy our 3 days in the Hamptons. Unfortunately this bed and breakfast turned out to be the worst my husband and me have had since we were kids satisfied just with a place to sleep. We have been to a... more

We've just come back from the Mainstay so excited and refreshed that we decided to share our feelings with other reviewers right away. We've been staying in Mainstay for at least 5 days in every August since 1998. There is smth.about the place that draws us back over and over again. First of all the authenticity of the place which... more

My wife and I made a last minute decision to splurge out into the Hamptons on a Sunday & Monday. It was an early Sunday morning, we didn't know where to stay or go - we just wanted to relax in the Southampton sun, since they were predicting a gorgeous two days. We called a few places that friends of... more

The perfect place as a base for exploration - close to town and beaches. "Classic" B&B atmosphere. Gracious old house with just the right amount of historic wear. Bedding, privacy, furnishings were great - the only shortfall was the very skimpy towels that don't match the overal warmth and quality of the Mainstay. more

Just OK

Having had a few days to reflect on my experience with this property I have to agree with some of the good and some of the bad reviews regarding this property. First, the good. The house is in a lovely neighborhood a short walk from the village of Southampton, the most elitist, in my view, of all the towns we... more
