We were told the owner of this hotel "wants to get out of the hotel biz". We agree that they should. The staff consists of a few totally incompetent bummed out local teenagers. They are not able to handle their summer guests. They would prefer that the hotel be empty than for the guests to enjoy themselves and dare to... more

We couldn't have had a better experience at the Ram's Head. My brother held his wedding there and the staff and management were fantastic! The site couldn't have been more beautiful, the food and service were outstanding. The management was very helpful at every turn, and handled our large group with grace and style. They made us feel at home... more

I'm sorry to say that this inn is not worth the trip. Shelter Island is beautiful and we've stayed at several properties there over the years, none of which are particularly great. The main problem with the Ram's Head is, as my husband pointed out, you pay "luxury" prices and the inn is kind of crummy. I'm happy to pay... more

We have stayed at this hotel many times. The rooms are a little small but the property has a lot of charm. Its a great place to hang out. The beach is not as nice as the beach that the Pridwin and Sunset Beach motel are on but you can always drive there. I haven't stayed at Sunset Beach but... more

We have never checked in and checked out so fast. The quaint Inn supplied an Army of flies in the room. A bathroom that quickly wiped down at best. Go down to the water for some R & R good luck finding a clean and comfortable lounge. Bring your own towels the ones they supply would be graet at drying... more

We didn't stay at the Inn, but were told they had a lovely restaurant outside very close to the water, so we ventured there for dinner. The property was quite lovely, but the restaurant unfortunately was a let down. Despite the fact that we called ahead and made a reservation, we still had to wait 30 minutes once we were... more

We stayed here for one night. We arrived on the 2nd to last cross sound ferry from CT then had dinner at Sunset Beach also on Shelter Island. We arrived to the hotel around midnight and checked in. There were a few people around the bar: the restaurants Chef Boudreau, the bartender, and another woman who also worked at the... more

I stayed at the Ram's Head in July 2007 and had a lovely time. The Ram's Head is quite beautiful. The back of the building looks onto a large, sloping yard and is right on the water. There are hammocks (my fiance and I spent a couple of hours swinging on one, it was fun!) and a tennis court. We... more

My husband and I stayed here for a few nights in the off season (after Labor Day). What's great: the location! We felt like we were on a retreat, far from civilization. It's a quaint old Inn, in a very secluded area. We spent a lot of time relaxing and reading on the expansive front lawn with its great water... more

the rams head is on a beautiful piece of property with the front lawn rolling down to the water - very scenic. the inn is a pretty cedar shake home with an exspensive restaurant. the bad news is that the inn is poorly managed. the staff lives on the 3rd floor very noisy at night woke us up. water pressure... more
