The Hotel is located right off the north ferry so the loccation is perfectly nestled in the heart of Shelter Island Heights. The hotel itself is rather old but very clean. The staff was friendly & accomodating which added to the old world charm that humbles you when spend any time on the island. We enjoyed the restuarant, the drinks were... More

Room was fine & clean although carpet needs replacing. We asked for a "quiet room." We had a room on the 3rd floor & were wakened off & on until 3:30 in the morning by outside noise.(Friday night) It sounded like kids who had been at the bars. We spoke to the manager the next day & she apologized &... More

I would consider this hotel to be authentic Shelter Island. It's right in town (Shelter Island Heights) and has a great bar. Sitting outside on the front porch for breakfast was very relaxing and the grounds are beautiful. The staff are very nice and extremely helpful. We grabbed beach towels and bikes and had a great weekend.

This is my third year staying at the Chequit. We stay in the summer cottage. I just love this Inn. Its a wonderful step back in time. The 1870's feel of the Inn is felt throughout. This Inn is not fancy, it's not over indulgent. It holds true to the feel of the island. The staff were very accommodating and... More

We have been aware of the Chequit Inn for at least ten years, we have always found a second home here where the establishment's representatives make it there business to present a clean, healthy and safe environment with a strong undercurrent of thoughtful services. Notwithstanding the water activities and other sports options, we only tell our special friends about this... More

June 2013 we had a family wedding on SI and we occupied 8 rooms in the Cedar House. Rooms were all newly painted, new rugs, clean bathrooms and mattresses seemed new too. One room had a bad a/c unit and was quickly replaced. One room had a hole in the wall and no unit was put in so the occupants... More

My boyfriend and I went to Shelter Island and picked this place because it was the least expensive and I didn't plan to spend a ton of time at the B&B. Pros: - good value - scrupulously clean (while everything was definitely old, I felt like the bathroom was as clean as if it was brand new) - good location... More

We just got back from spending a weekend at the Chequit Inn. The good is that it's within walking distance to the ferry, the bike rental shop, and a bagel/pastry shop, and it is two door's down from Sweet Tomato's. Other than that, I can't say that the Chequit Inn is a wonderful place to stay. The hotel is very... More

We stayed at the Chequit for a quick summer getaway from NYC. We were in their Summer Cottage, room 3. The room was very cute and clean and cozy. Warning though: They have the LOUDEST air conditioner I have ever heard. It's a window unit, and if it weren't about a hundred degrees with humidity outside, we would have left... More
