The Silver Spruce has an intriguing history. The well kept section which faces Route 9 was built in 1790 using pegs rather than nails. Wealthy heiresses built the major portion of the Inn as a summer retreat during prohibition. Thus, the Inn has multiple locations to conceal alcoholic beverages. The heiresses brought a large staff when they came to the... More

I just stayed at the Silver Spruce Inn while doing a API photo workshop we filled the whole Inn. Phyllis the owner was Great she did breakfast on our convenience . The Inn itself was very interesting it was restored in the 1930's but kept an older charm. My room had a fire place and no TV that was a... More

My husband and I spent a few nights at the Inn to explore the area and to cycle. Phyllis was very helpful in providing us with suggestions for our routes as well as suggestions for dining. The home is beautiful and the grounds very well maintained. Breakfast was plentiful and very good. Phyllis also took the time to make us... More

My wife and I visited the Silver Spruce for 2 nights. We stayed in a room in the Carriage House as all of the other rooms were occupied, and with good reason. The rooms at the Silver Spruce are absolutely beautiful. Step into the enclosed porch and walk through to the dining room and it feels as if you have... More

We had stayed at this B&B before after climbing some of the high peaks but we planned this trip so that we could canoe in nearby lakes. We love the warm woods throughout this large home. Our room had a comfortable sitting area with gas fired stove and lounge chairs. The bed was a king with fine linen. Best of... More

I was the only guest and Phyllis made me feel right at home! The inn is lovely, large sleeping rooms and fabulous public space. Phyllis recommended a great hike to the top of Mt. Severance to seethe lake from above and the scenery was spectacular.

This rambling old home is lovely. Ask Phyllis to give you the tour and ask her about the home's history, the secret liquor cubbies and the moveable walls. Each room is unique and I think they all have attached bathrooms. The plumbing and fixtures are old - this isn't a newly renovated commercial hotel - but it's a really charming... More

This is a great place - very historic old building with lovely rooms. The breakfasts were also wonderful. The owner is trying to sell the place so it's not clear what it's future is. Very friendly owner. Closed in the winter.

The huge perennial garden delineated by river birch and gazebo set against giant spruce & pine trees greet you when entering the large parking lot. This Bed and Breakfast Inn is really something special. The section built in the 1790's a true testimony to the craftsmanship of the time, but the larger portion built in 1926 is an experience worth your... More
