We last visited friends that live in Saugerties during May, 2011. The campground is just a short ride to downtown Saugerties and everything it has to offer. Rip Van Winkle is one of the more rustic campgrounds we've used other than some state and federal parks. We like that the sites are spaced rather far apart and it offers sites... More

Amazing campground. Clean well maintained facilities, friendly helpful staff and GREAT location for some fantastic hikes. The sites are clean and give you good privacy. I have to say the best thing is that they have a section exclusively for adults-something I don't see in a lot of campgrounds. A superb weekend! I will definitely go back and would highly... More

We brought a group of 11 to camp and were accommodated with a large group site with plenty of room, open space in which to set up our 4 tents and lovely pine woods for the kids to play in. The biggest surprise, however was the full canopy over three end-to-end picnic tables, the saving grace to our trip, which... More

I've been visiting Rip Van Winkle on a near annual basis for about ten years now. I've traveled with friends, family and even a solo trip and have always enjoyed the campground. The sites are spacious, clean and wooded so you are not on top of the group next to you. The facilties are good--clean showers, warm pool and stocked... More

We just got back from an awesome weekend here. There were 9 of us in all - 4 adults and 5 kids, ages 2.5 - 8. Everything about this place exceeded expectations. Staff was friendly and helpful but let you be on your own. We arrived toward sundown with lots of hungry kids - and pretty quickly they had come... More

Easy Location. Clean, shaded campsites. Awesome new pool. BEWARE OF BITING BUGS! Even with bug spray we were nearly eaten alive.. Maybe a bad week there but bugs were unbearable. Not a lot of activities for the kids during the week but weekend listed many more. Awesome new heated pool that was clean and well maintained. Staff amazingly helpful. We... More

We have been coming here for years and it keeps getting better. This campground is very well-maintained. The sites are spacious sites and separated by pines trees. They have bathrooms that are clean, individual showers for only 25 cents and a well-equipped campstore that has all sorts of stuff. And they now have a pool. A lot of people like... More

This is a great camp ground. We stayed as a couple with a dog. The stream and swimming hole are clean and fresh. And the grounds were large and relaxing. Just a bit of a warning , the bathrooms are just glorified out houses. They may or may not have paper. More

I honestly cannot think of a single negative thing about our experience at Rip Van Winkle. We stayed for three days over Memorial weekend and it was pleasantly quiet. The bathrooms were modern and kept clean. Showers and laundry facilities were a pleasant surprise. The camp store is small, but anything you might have forgotten you will find there. Lost... More

Decided to try this campground for quick weekend getaway. We were able to get 2 sites together on last minute notice. The sites are VERY wooded but average sized. The roads are narrow but manageable. The kids loved the new heated pool as well as playing in the stream. They enjoyed finding frogs. The ice cream wagon and hay rides... More
