As a loyal guest for 20 years, I will NEVER stay here again. I went to the college that used to own/run the Hotel Saranac and granted it was never the Ritz Carlton, it was what it was- a nostalgic, historic hotel with a killer location in the village of S.L. In January, I had the worst stay of my... more

What a BIG disappointment! After having been here several times before my husband decided to surprise me and came for the weekend. Gift shop, which had been a favorite of mine, gone. Dining room not open because of lack of help. Went to bar area for lunch, menu has changed as well as ownership which should be brought to everyones... more

This hotel has gone to the dogs. When it was owned by Paul Smith's College it was awesome ... then the college sold it to the Aurora's and it is a mess. The parking lot is filthy and full of potholes, check in was a disaster, breakfast was not cooked. We recently held an event there and there wasn't enough... more

Well, it was a gem once. No longer. Seems like the new owners have pretty much ruined the place - the gift shop is gone (it was the biggest in the area), and the great food is too, along with the outstanding stuff that made the place such a pleasure and so homey. My last experience at the hotel made... more

I had a wonderful time at Hotel Saranac. The hotel staff were unbelievably accommodating, and the hotel itself was spotless! The shops and restaurants around the hotel were fun to visit, and I felt very welcome in the town. At night, the hotel was quiet and not at all noisy so that I could enjoy a good night's sleep. And... more

This Historic hotel is the centerpiece of this sleepy little village, just west of Lake Placid. We've been coming here for years and have enjoyed every stay. The new owners were very friendly and accommodating (it was recently sold by Paul Smiths College). The wait staff--from the janitor to the bar tender were extremely pleasant, and service oriented. We stayed in... more

If you remember the Hotel Saranac from past stays this is not the same place. There are no enthusiastic college students, the fire is not lit in the second floor lounge, the gift shop is closed. Yes, this is a budget hotel, but it used to be fun. more

My wife and I stayed there during Winter Carnival in February 2008. We had stayed there before, numerous times throughout the years and this year we brought two friends to Carnival (they had a seperate room) When we walked in the door, there were many people in the lobby, it was about 9:00 friday night, everyone was having a good... more

OK, so I was looking for a place with character and I was going to go ice fishing for the weekend. The Hotel Saranac was an adequate place to stay, albeit a bit high in price for the quality. The room was clean, though somewhat tired and worn, and everything worked. The staff was ambivalent and parking was an issue.... more

I understand that the hotel is old and thus have older-style small rooms. But, the rooms really are tiny, and we had a King corner suite. The bathtub didn't drain too well. The heat was hard to control. The lobby is unappealing, the large old / original lobby on the second floor can be written off. Wifi (which is advertised)... more
