We ended up with suite 15, A very large and comfortable suite on the third floor overlooking the main street in the "Harbor". Quiet and nicely furnished for comfort. Access for the less amble might be a concern for some. The food and service at their restaurant was excellent. My spouse's halibut was prepared perfectly and heaped with chunks of... More

Great lodging, great food and great service with an added great fro the patrons. The bar crowd was friendly and civilized. The room on the third floor was elegant old world and had every amenity except a TV...which was fine.

My wife, my cousin, his girlfriend and I had lunch here on a Sunday in June 2014 on the porch. The meal started out well enough: local Hog's Neck oysters (which were to die for), and beef carpaccio, which was delectable. The bloody marys were good too. The entrees, however, were a major disappointment. My wife ordered the Black Angus... More

We had Christmas lunch at The American Hotel today. The food was uneven. The greens in the salad were wilted. Pea soup and duck consomme were tasty. The roast duck was fatty and the consistency of the meat was mealy. The apple crisp for dessert was awful-the "crisp" part was soggy and doughy. The service was attentive, but courses came... More

Having dinner at the American Hotel in Sag Harbor made me sad. It wasn't the throwback elegance and romantic atmosphere of the dimly lit dining room, or the delectable crab cakes and perfectly prepared vegetables, or the attentive service of the professional waiters that brought on my melancholy. It was the fact that my husband was 1500+ miles away. He... More

The American Hotel is quaint, cozy and inviting when you first walk up. An historic building in Sag Harbor. Menu was limited. Largest wine selection we have ever seen [5-inch, 3 ring binder]. Drink order was taken quickly. Appetizers [we had garden salad that was incredibly salty]. Crabs cake sandwich was not lump crab, a more rounded patty. Side on... More

We stayed in #15 and loved the old Chinese style decor. Very spacious with all the amenities. Loved the fact there was no Tv. If you do not do stairs don't get this room cause there are two flights up, but well worth walkin up to this room. The real surprise was the 5 star restaurant downstairs! We had just... More

We just went here for a late night drink and dessert. Sat at the Old Bar, real classic old school Bar & Restaurant. The drink was perfect, and the Macadamia Tort was delicious. The Coffee and cream served in sterling pots. Just perfect...

This is a very acceptable hotel in a delightful town. Although the rooms are small, I doubt if there are larger ones in the village itself. The property is old, but the bathrooms have been updated. The bed was luxurious with great pillows and bed linen. On the downside, our telephones did not work for any of the five days we... More

The hotel is very charming. Note that does mean it's old and doesn't have many of the modern conveniences. The bedding, sheets and room were clean and well appointed, though the rooms are small. On weekends the bar downstairs is open until 1 a.m., so if you have a room on the first floor plan on being up until then... More
