My wife and I recently had the pleasure of staying at Blackhead Mountain Lodge. We are constantly looking to get away from the craziness of the city and this trip didn't disappoint. The resort has clean rooms, excellent food and a real comfortable atmosphere. It also, has a great golf course with amazing views and lots of wildlife. The staff couldn't have been more accommodating and really took pride in providing us with an enjoyable experience. We look forward to returning next season.

My husband and I stayed here in July for three nights and 4 rounds of golf. This is truly a family run place and the owners really make you feel welcome. The golf course is a challenging mountain course with beautiful views and we saw deer on the course as well as other wildlife. It was not crowded, the restaurant was good, though not open on Mondays and Tuesdays, and the breakfast was great and included. We would definitely come back and don't know why more people dont get away to the Catskills since the mountains are beautiful, the hiking is great and it is so close to the city.

This golf course is a retreat, it is for me a place where people come to unwind and forget about what may be going on in their lives, and just have a great time. I've been golfing at this course for over 15 years and i can honestly say its the best NY has to offer. I've recently moved to buffalo NY where there are a ton of good places to golf, i play at multiple private country clubs with co workers and friends, but it seems that every time i go out to play, I always compare my experience to blackhead. I take every opportunity to describe the course to the people i play with, like how I hate to love the 4th hole or how most people who aren't from the catskills will loose their breathe on hole 18 (hopefully not there golf ball either.). If i could i would bring every person I've ever golfed with to this course, because it is that special.

Here is my overall review:

Blackhead mountain golf course is not your run of the mill golf course. It is built into a mountain, so don't expect anything to be easy, but that doesn't mean it's not exceptional. If you like to be challenged and have a decent amount of golf balls in your bag there is no better course, especially at its price point. The course is always maintained very well for how hilly and dense the wooded areas get. With all the valleys though sometimes there will be wet spots of a big rain has blown through. Other than that the most beautiful scenic course you will ever play.

Peter is the local pro in the shop. He is the heart and soul of the whole establishment. From helpful tips on playing the difficult course his father ( Mr. M) created, or great stories about his travels around the world playing golf, or even If you want food from the clubhouse while you're on the course Peter will find a way to get it out there to you so you don't need to take a break. I've had Peter be a coach a friend and a boss to me, and there is no one better to spend your golf time with.

If you want a trip where you can let go and enjoy the company of friends, drink beer out of a German boot, or even just play some horse shoes, than there is no other course. I would recommend staying around the bar in the clubhouse because you never know what stories you will hear.

we went to blackhead mountain lodge in October to view the fall foliage. the lodge seems nice until we got into the rooms. i have a habit of checking the sheets and these were dirty. they hadn't been changed. the bathroom was worse with feaces on the toilet seat. we asked for a room change but the sheets were also dirty. someone finally came and changed them but i spent a half hour sanitizing that bathroom because it too was dirty. there was mold in the shower stall and you could tell noone had taken the time to clean it. the breakfast given with our package was good but i was scared to eat there. i would never stay there again- even if it was free.

I didn't stay here; this review relates solely to the golf. While the price is certainly affordable, think twice before consider playing here. Very hilly with lots of elevation changes, tons of hidden hazards, and small greens that roll like Brillo pads. If you do decide to play, my advice is to (1) find a local to join you as guide, caddy or spiritual advisor, or (2) take some time to preview the course before you actually start playing.

We won our trip off skyauction , great deal and quite getaway, not much to do in the area but we hiked kaaterskill falls which was breath taking this time of year. The resort was quite and the Owners are very friendly. The food at the restaurant was great and the golf grounds are beautiful in the fall. Great hospitality, and relaxing getaway.

We spent 3 nights here purchased from Sky Auction - a good deal but "you get what you pay for"...the package advertised as "Free" rounds of golf . However, you pay a cart fee that is almost the cost to pay for golf - so much for 'free'. Hospitality felt 2nd-rate since we were the "Sky Auction" people. I've read the other reviews but I am sorry to say we did not feel welcome especially in the golf shop, not friendly nor accommodating.

On the positive side, the golf course was very challenging with majestic mountain views. This alone is worth the trip.

Accommodations were nothing special, rustic with the feel of 'summer-camp'. So, if you are not playing golf, not worth the trip. We will not visit again.

We are very sorry that you did not have a pleasant experience with us here at Blackhead Mtn! We pride ourselves on the exceptional hospitality that has kept us in business for over 47 years! I wish that you would have approached management about your concerns prior to leaving us so that we may have attempted to "make things right" and addressed the issues right away. In regards to our cart fee's, we base our rates on being competitive with other local courses and we usually end up being a few bucks less expensive than most in our area. Our packages offered through sky auction are usually tremendous values even if you end up adding on the cost of the optional cart rental fee's. We thank you for visiting us and hope that one day you may give us 2nd chance to provide you with an enjoyable vacation.

We spent 3 nights 28-29-30- August 2012. This family owned property is not closed to anything but very quiet and owners are very nice. Rooms are clean, sheets are of good quality and the duvet is very comfortable. You even can relax on your balcony after your golf game. Breakfast is included but there are only 3 choices of menu: eggs, french toasts or pancakes, very good though. The scenery is wonderful as it is on a golf course.

If you book there, it is to play golf. Challenging golf. Don't think about scoring the game of your life...... but if you want to have fun in a wonderful mountain environment, this is the place. We saw deers and marmots plus many bird species.

The restaurant at the pro shop is opened for lunch and offers good food and there are wings and lunch menu on Wednesday nights from 6:30 to 8:00;. The main restaurant is opened for dinner only 4 days a week, Thursday to Sunday. The food is excellent and portions are big enough to satisfy any golfer.
We didn't use the fitness facilities and the pool water was a little cool at this time of the year.

Overall, we enjoyed our stay, will return and will recommend to our golfer friends.
Thanks to the Maasmann family.

I was able to get away from it all and breathe in the wonderful fresh mountain air in the Catskill Mountains. The views at Blackhead Mountain Lodge are spectacular. The golf course is built into the mountain and offers unbelieveable vistas from the fairways and greens. The German specialties in the restaurant were expertly prepared. The quaint rooms @ the Lodge were spotlessy clean with comfy bedding. The staff & family are friendly and will make sure you have a great stay. If you want to getaway from the hustle and bustle, this is the place to just relax and enjoy your surroundings.
