Here is my overall review:
Blackhead mountain golf course is not your run of the mill golf course. It is built into a mountain, so don't expect anything to be easy, but that doesn't mean it's not exceptional. If you like to be challenged and have a decent amount of golf balls in your bag there is no better course, especially at its price point. The course is always maintained very well for how hilly and dense the wooded areas get. With all the valleys though sometimes there will be wet spots of a big rain has blown through. Other than that the most beautiful scenic course you will ever play.
Peter is the local pro in the shop. He is the heart and soul of the whole establishment. From helpful tips on playing the difficult course his father ( Mr. M) created, or great stories about his travels around the world playing golf, or even If you want food from the clubhouse while you're on the course Peter will find a way to get it out there to you so you don't need to take a break. I've had Peter be a coach a friend and a boss to me, and there is no one better to spend your golf time with.
If you want a trip where you can let go and enjoy the company of friends, drink beer out of a German boot, or even just play some horse shoes, than there is no other course. I would recommend staying around the bar in the clubhouse because you never know what stories you will hear.
On the positive side, the golf course was very challenging with majestic mountain views. This alone is worth the trip.
Accommodations were nothing special, rustic with the feel of 'summer-camp'. So, if you are not playing golf, not worth the trip. We will not visit again.
If you book there, it is to play golf. Challenging golf. Don't think about scoring the game of your life...... but if you want to have fun in a wonderful mountain environment, this is the place. We saw deers and marmots plus many bird species.
The restaurant at the pro shop is opened for lunch and offers good food and there are wings and lunch menu on Wednesday nights from 6:30 to 8:00;. The main restaurant is opened for dinner only 4 days a week, Thursday to Sunday. The food is excellent and portions are big enough to satisfy any golfer.
We didn't use the fitness facilities and the pool water was a little cool at this time of the year.
Overall, we enjoyed our stay, will return and will recommend to our golfer friends.
Thanks to the Maasmann family.
