Good location near medical center and University City. Large rooms. Ample parking. Pretty standard stuff for this class of hotel. What knocked them down a peg in rating was a barely edible breakfast and suspect security (when I asked for a replacement key for my son they didn’t check ID). Could be higher rated if fixed those details.

One of the nicest big chain hotels I've been to. Really nice neighborhood near the Medical School, upscale feel. Super nice Italian restaurant attached which also does room service. The made to order omelet, homefries, and pancakes were phenomenal. Room 521 was so huge and spacy.

A couple of important things to note before I even start the review. Depending on where you are searching, you may find that the hotel is listed as not having an airport shuttle. And if you were to look in the directory of hotel shuttles at baggage claim, you wouldn't find the hotel listed. But they do indeed have a shuttle that runs at certain hours. Unfortunately for me, that was after a $25-ish Uber ride. So I'm telling you now so you don't have to. Second is that if you care about your view from your window, then I would recommend that you do not select a room on the north side of the building. If you didn't take note of the area, a north facing room will give you a nice view of... a cemetery. Anyways, to the review of the hotel. It appears to be a newer hotel as the rooms appear to be more modern and without the look of renovation. It is as one would expect for a HGI - large beds, and a large seat which I think converts into a bed, but since I'm traveling solo is of inconsequence to me. But it was nice to have an additional place to put my backpack and the like. There are enough plugs around for your chargers or a CPAP machine (though I still for some reason am a bit squeamish about using the outlets on the lamps - there were some wall outlets as well so I didn't have to worry about it. The showers are nice, if not a little narrow on the width (I have a longer reach, so I can bump into things while moving around. You can get a nice hot shower, but the temperature is a bit inconsistent. Sometimes I have it nice and hot, but then it turns just warm instead. It's a small annoyance, and not really a big deal, but something to keep in mind. The one weird thing was that despite being on the top floor in a corner room, there were some noises coming from what would seem to be roof or the exterior wall. I have no idea what it could have been, but I am not excessively sensitive to noise, so it didn't really bother me. One might also take issue with the noise from the hallway as that does seem to carry a bit. I finally did make use of a pool in a hotel finally, and for someone like me who is a bit embarrassed by my figure, the pool is actually in the basement, which means no windows outside and such, so I can have some privacy. One thing to possibly note here is that your digital key may not be able to open the pool. The pool and the fitness center are adjacent to each other, and the key kept wanting to open the fitness area, so I had to get a regular key to partake of the pool. Outside of getting the physical keycard, I had no other interaction with the hotel staff, which is fine as aforementioned earlier I like my privacy. I also didn't partake of the breakfast, so I can't really rate that either. Since you're near UoR, you have many food options available around you, and there is a CVS nearby if you need some sundries. I was glad to see a Tim Hortons kitty corner from the hotel, but the hours are weird as they close in the early afternoon - so make sure you take an early trip there if you want your double-double. So overall, it was my standard HGI experience which being a large chain, is what one would hope to expect. I got what I paid for, and that's really what I care about.

I came to Rochester as my daughter, who is a student at the U, was in the hospital. After one hour of sleep before leaving at 1 am for my flight, when I arrived, I was exhausted. Front desk staff was very friendly, but offered no information as far as even where the elevators were, how breakfast worked, etc. The university was kind enough to fly me out and book my room as this was unexpected and I’m broke. The $50/night incidentals was also unexpected and a hardship. As for the hotel itself, rooms are spacious and clean. The beds are firm and the pillows fluffy and plentiful. Bathrooms spotless and showers lovely. Ample parking, which is always at a premium around here. My biggest issue was the noise. Not the fault of the hotel, but lots of traffic noise, airport noise, etc. the walls/floors are paper thin. Many apparent might owls near me, talking, yelling, stomping, tv, post 11 pm. I’m not one to complain, but if I could have pinpointed where it was coming from, I might have due to my desperate need for sleep. White noise/pillow over my head couldn’t drown it out. I know most hotels have little insulation between rooms, but I stayed in one just up the road in the spring and would have sworn there was no one else in the hotel. Other than the noise, no real complaints. Breakfast buffet $19, so I didn’t partake and can’t comment. Didn’t have the energy to check out the pool. Overall, I’ll probably choose another hotel in the future.

I upgraded my rating from a 4 to a 5 because of the hotel staff. Overall it is a very nice, clean and modern hotel with a great restaurant attached. The disappointment came in the gym in the morning because it had clearly not been cleaned the day before as evidenced by the overflowing towel bin and the fact that there were no clean towels; no water; and no equipment disinfecting wipes in the gym. Also the phone in the gym is broken. When I called to the front desk the lady reluctantly brought some full size towels, which are not ideal when riding the Peloton. That said, as I was at the front desk getting change for a $20 so that I could leave a tip in my room the lady at the front desk (who turned out to be the business manager) genuinely inquired about my stay. I didn't initially complain but just gave a mediocre response; she prompted me to give her some "constructive feedback" so I shared my gym experience. It was very clear (and wish I could remember her name) that she was genuinely disappointed that they had not met my needs and wanted to make it right. Because of that, I upgraded my rating from a 4 that it was going to be to the 5 I posted.

This would be a five star review if the rooms were clean. Housekeeping is overworked and there are not enough personnel to maintain standards of cleanliness. The floors were never vacuumed, and looking under the bed was disgusting. With that being said, the hotel has everything else going for it. Rooms are large and bathrooms have great water pressure and thick towels. Front desk staff are friendly and helpful, and the pool and gym are nice additions. The location is perfect for the University of Rochester and is 15 minutes from anywhere else you want to go. Grappa, the hotel’s restaurant, is a destination in itself, with a great happy hour and good food. If this hostelry would inject some pride into its housekeeping staff, the Hilton Garden Inn Rochester/University would be the place to stay.

Room and staff were fine - no complaints there. Unfortunately our rental car along with a few others was broken into while parked in this hotel's parking lot. Hopefully since this happened, the hotel has arranged for a security patrol around the parking lot for their guests' safety.

We are so sorry Gail that you had experienced your car being broken into, its public parking shared by university and hospital, so there's public safety that patrols it. Since this very isolated incident we've definitely taken appropriate measures to ensure Public Safety is monitoring our shared parking lot much more carefully.

This is a very comfortable hotel. It is new and has comfortable beds, a nice TV, and nice bathroom appliances. The interior is very nice as well. They always have space whenever we come and we don't usually reserve a room ahead of time and we come about once a month to see family. The only thing I would say is the continental breakfast isn't very good. It costs 20 dollars to get a choice of an omelet, sausages, and/or potatoes. It would be nicer if they had better breakfasts choices.

Rafael, thank you so much for your kind words of your stay with us. I'm glad you enjoyed the rooms general spaces within our hotel, but sorry if the price point for the breakfast seemed a little much. We do offer breakfast included rates which may be something you'd prefer, but will definitely be making mention of this critique to further evolve our hotel into the best guest experience we can offer. We look forward to hosting you in the future!

I loved our brief stay at this hotel. It served our main purpose. It was clean, easy parking, walking distance to restaurants. My sisters and I traveled to Rochester to visit family. We did that and cane to the Hilton for some rest.

We had a great stay here when passing through town on a road trip. Our room was ready when we arrived. It was very clean, had all the essentials and was comfortable. There was a microwave and Keurig coffeemaker. The desk was good sized. Downstairs there are many areas to sit or meet for business. It was very quiet, although facing the parking lot. There are restaurants and a Barnes and Noble nearby.
