I booked two rooms for a colleague and I who made a trip to Rochester. Rosemary, the innkeeper, was fabulous and went beyond the call. One of of the days we stayed there, we went back to the house to get some work done and a short while later she came out with fresh-baked chocolate cake. If I were to... More

We stayed at the Ellwanger Estate for two nights (October 30th and 31st) while visiting friends in the area. The Woodland Suite was clean, comfortable and the Arts and Crafts style decor in the private sitting room is lovely. They have preserved a lot of the original features and gorgeous woodwork, but thankfully a modern bed and bathroom. The bed... More

We just visited Ellwanger for the 3rd time this past weekend. It was wonderful again. We stayed in the Woodland Suite which has a King size bed and a nice sitting room. Rosemary always makes us feel welcome. She serves a wonderful breakfast too. Besides the room, the estate is very interesting with a built in pipe organ and an... More

Our son goes to RIT, so hopefully we will be visiting this area frequently. We've stayed at several hotels in the area, but prefer to stay in bed and breakfasts. So, we decided on Ellwanger Estate. This was a great decision. The house is a little hard to find as the sign is small and high up. I'm sure zoning... More

A lovely oasis to spend a night or two and visit Rochester. Our room was nicely appointed with small touches such as a night light and a journal. The common area downstairs is huge, interesting and comfy for lounging about. Breakfast was delicious and, thoughtfully, included a heart shaped piece of banana/avocado bread with a candle once Rosemary heard it... More

We stayed while visiting Rochester for a parents weekend for RIT. The building is a bit hard to find. A garden wall and a discreet sign meant we made an abrupt turn in. The house itself is beautiful -high ceilings, a welcoming great room and a gorgeous staircase. And the staff was excellent. Breakfast was ample and delicious with several... More

Loved this b and b. Rosemary, the proprietor, is wonderful. Warm and welcoming but never intrusive. The property is great. We stayed in the Garden Room, which had an incredibly comfortable mattress and charming décor. Quiet and lovely. The whole b and b had a great ambience--lots of nooks and crannies for sitting and reading and daydreaming. The gardens are... More

We stayed in the lovely Garden Room for two evenings. Despite being used to sleeping in a larger bed at home, we slept really well on the queen mattress. Just goes to show that Rosemary spared no expense in her mattress selection! No surprise given her attention to detail. The coffee and breakfast were fabulous. We will definitely be back.

Our stay at the Ellwanger was fabulous. The owner, Rosemary was so helpful. Our room was clean, spacious and delightful. Our room was decorated with bird appliqués and included a book that had the bird calls coordinated with each appliqué. Breakfast included fresh fruit, selection of juices and a main dish. Coffee, tea and snacks were available all day. The... More

We booked the Ellwanger Estate at the last minute on an overnight college visit to Rochester. Rosemary, the Innkeeper, was very accommodating and set the tone for a very relaxing stay. We were upgraded to the two room Woodland Suite (thanks Rosemary!) - the room was spacious and very well appointed. Décor cut across all genres ranging from antique Tiffany... More
