Charming B&B, nestled in. Surrounded by cottage garden, with gentle paths and many places to sit quietly in nature. Floral themes abound outside and in. My cozy room was well appointed with beautiful antique furniture. Breakfast room is bright and welcoming. Owner Edie is sprightly, knowledgable, and heartwarmingly friendly.

A visit to the Hudson Valley, where artists, politicians , old and new money all found beauty that spoke to them, is a wonderful place to recharge. We went there this weekend with several friends and visited FDR home, Storm King Art Center , Olana, home of Frederic Church renowned landscape artist. We ate great meal at Culinary Institute of... I can't say enough good things about the Bitter Sweet Bed and Breakfast. The main thing is that Edith, the proprietor, will make sure you are 100% satisfied. Food is good and plenty of it. Need suggestions for a good restaurant, a hiking area or scenic morning run, Edith will help you out. After all she's been in the area... More

This lovely property, situated in a bucolic setting, seemed magical upon our arrival. The antiques and furnishings in the dining area and hallways were fitting for the old home and quite beautiful. Our room was rather small, but quite lovely and comfortable; however, it was not the room we'd reserved. The owner chose not to apprise us of that fact... More

I got a "special" from the owner: 4 nights pay for 5 nights stay because I would not be partaking of the breakfast. Still, it was no value because for my $130 nightly fee (that is $650 for the 5 nights, one being 'free') I had a rather awful experience. The room looked tired and was full of pots and... More

After reading the reviews of the Bittersweet B&B, I am a bit disappointed. I thought Ms. Edith was especially kind because we "clicked", but now I see that she's wonderful to most everyone! I felt as if I were simply visiting an Aunt or close family member. I arrived a little late with my two children after driving all day.... More

This is a tad late in being posted. I Returned to Ms.Edith's home again in mid-May to bring my daughter back to New Orleans for the summer. (She is a Bard student, just finishing her Frosh year.)Ms.Edith was her usual bubbly and warm self as she welcomed me in the early evening. A lot of driving plus packing the car... More

Overall our stay was excellent. We came here for a wedding that was to be in Rhinebeck, but there were no available B&B's or hotels that had 2 rooms available. We came with our parents and were sharing a car together so wanted to make sure that we were at the same place since everywhere is such a drive. We... More

We had a wonderful stay at Edith Thomas' Bitter Sweet Bed & Breakfast! Edith is a marvelous, dynamic, warm, generous, lady who welcomed us with opened arms. I knew by her greeting that we would have a great stay here. I felt that I was just like a family member. Our room was spacious with a porch to sit and... More

Let us begin with the fact that I really did not want to write this review (you will see why) but felt it was necessary. We rely on reviews from trip advisor when traveling and felt it our obligation.Starting with the entrance to this B & B....Awful. The proprietor Edith was not there... the house was unlocked and no one... More
