A last-minute misunderstanding with a more expensive competitor catapulted us unannounced into the Bitter Sweet at about 5pm with 3 tired and hungry toddlers. Edith not only opened her doors to us, she improvised some toddler beds with the materials she had on hand and put up with 3 messy babies at breakfast the next morning. If this place had... more

My stay at the Bittersweet B&B was wonderful. Edith, the B&B caretaker was very helpful, polite and able to assist with all my needs. Her full country breakfast was outstanding and amazing (from the freshly brewed coffee to the incredible breakfast breads). One morning I had to start breakfast very early for a plein air art trip in Hudson, NY,... more

This is my second review. My wife and I just returned from a 6-day stay. We come up here two or three times a year and have been coming up here for more than a decade. Let me say this: the grounds and the flower gardens have never looked lovelier, the rooms are as sunny and spacious as ever, the... more

If I'd only read these few negative reviews I'd have missed this perfect gem. Edith is a remarkable woman, the B&B is breathtaking and the rooms are beautiful. The gardens are restive. I am here for 14 days and will return for 10 in September. When you find something as wonderful as this property... why look any farther? A bug???... more

The owner (Edith) was exceptionally kind and attentive. She would be a wonderful Grandmother! The B & B (old house) stuffed full of antiques, unfortunately if you are non-smoker you are in trouble. The whole house down to the sheets smell of cigarettes and very thin walls and can at time hear your neighbors. The house is clean enough....but could... more

I attended a workshop at the Omega Institute and the B&Bs recommended by the Institute were already filled. Someone directed me to BitterSweet since this was the only thing available, but I was concerned since it was not on the recommended list of Omega. I can see why. I found it unclean and the TV did not work. When I... more

I think reviews of this kind are very advantageous to a discerning traveler. Reality needs addressing. I don't consider it "gossip" as one reviewer said. So after reading several past guests' reviews, I'm not at all surprised by some of the negatives that have been said already about this B&B. The room we had downstairs was VERY moldy-smelling and the... more

Ok, but there were a few problems. The proprietor, Edith is very sweet and interesting. I had a bit of a problem with the billing which I found troubling after reading that it apparently has happened before. We were quoted about $115 and were charged about $135. The propietor was not there when we tried to check in at 3pm,... more

A friendly welcome on a very cold, winters night. I was the only guest and was treated like family! The fire was cosy and the glass of wine hit the spot. I got what I paid for in a clean room. Breakfast was plentiful. more

We stayed in the Bitter Sweet for two full months in the downstairs room that a previous "rater" called "moldy." As a cancer and chemo therapy survivor, with a reduced immune system, let me say that I had no allergic reactions to what had provem to be an absolutely delightful room plus sitting room. My wife and I stayed for... more
