We stayed here the night before a college tour. It was the perfect place for this. It is a historic building and I was able to get two very small dorm like rooms for my teenager and myself. There was a bathroom in the hall. Given a week of traveling and sharing hotel rooms this was a welcome and economical... More

Somehow, this place is almost always full. I'm not really a fan because everything in the hotel has been donated from Vassar graduates... so the furniture in the rooms is mismatched. And not the most comfortable. I recall the elevator either not working or not accessible to the part of the building we were living in. We had really heavy... More

My daughter and I were on a college visit to Vassar and arrived at the college late on a Monday evening. While the town around the college was quite dead (what town?), the Alumnae House was lovely and worth the stay. It has a lovely view and beautiful antiques. The rooms were nicely appointed with comfy beds and a very... More

Hi -- As an alum, I would just like to say that the "dorm rooms" were originally built with the intention of college students who wanted to get away from the dorm and study/rest a bit. That, or for Yale guys who visited VC for the weekend. They are meant to be simple and well priced... I think they were... More

Vassar is a beautiful college with old historical buildings - The Alumnae House is absolutely beautiful. We booked a "dorm room" because it was the only option and we were quite surprised to see the room also - as "hanleyster"stated. His description is very adequate - although I will add that it is not horrible. If you are just sleeping... More

then you would LOVE the dorm style rooms of this hotel. OK, so everyone is right about the fact that is is a really "cool" old historic place to visit. It looks like it was lifted up from some old town in the UK and plopped in Poughkeepsie. I am sure the normal (expensive) rooms are fine, but dont, i... More

What a great place! It is an historic building and the bedrooms and public rooms ooze history. Comfortable beds, all amenities provided (although no TV, which didn't bother us but may not suit some), wi-fi, quite location, great buffet breakfast. We were recommended to try a local restaurant (Beach Tree Grill) which was fantastic. More

The Vassar Alumnae House -now open to the public, by reservatioin- is a great architectural example from the 1920s, with many original features (including lighting, window treatments, hardware on doors, floors, and wall panelling). The rooms have homey furnishishings, the baths are well-equipped, and location is quiet. But it is the architectural features that are so unusually nice: this includes... More

We found ourselves in Poughkeepsie and needed two rooms for the night. Unluckily all hotels were fully booked so I checked "www.tripadvisor.com" in hope for a room. Thanks to a fellow tripadvisor member who posted his comment a few days ago we learned about this -I guess otherwise hard to find- hotel. It's probably difficult to approriately bring across my... I had no idea that Vassar had accomodations available to the public. I found out by reading their web site. The "House" is a converted mansion adjacent to the beautiful Vassar campus. The price was very reasonable, although the rooms are quite basic (no TV). Making up for the sparce rooms, is the beautiful sitting room/library and majestic common room.... More
