If you want to show your kids the alternative vacation from all inclusive resorts or disneyland, where they can read books, listen to prayers that are not hours long but 15-20 minutes under harp and guitar, where they can even speak with man who knows something in life more than we know, than you ll go to that place. This is located in a very serene country setting. The closest bigger cities are Elmira, Horseheads and Corning. It’s perfect if you want a private silent type of religious retreat although you have the option of meeting regularly with a monk by request. Services with monks are very reverent and they inspire deep devotion with their readings and resonant singing.... More

Visited during lambing season. Tender and beautiful time learning. Many parallels in real life as I spent time with the shepherd and the sheep. I created work opportunities for myself and think it would be beneficial for visitors to participate in the sharing of chores. I would like to return and help the shepherd again.

My family and I stayed at Mt Saviour while vacationing in New York State in June 2013. We stayed in a converted farmhouse, thoroughly renovated, that was attached to a larger retreat facility. Mt. Saviour is a Benedictine Monastery. It is not a bed and breakfast. It has accommodations for guests who wish spend quiet time praying with the monks. They ask that you spend a minimum of two nights. Meals are provided and included in the donations. Men eat with the monks in the cloister and women at another guest house which... More
